Building Access and EgressEntry to ClassPrior to ClassStudents are advised, in line with University policy, not to attend class if they are exhibiting flu like symptoms or are febrile. Students are not allowed to attend class if they are self-isolating or are required to isolate. Students may also be asked not to attend if they have been in contact with a declared hotspot.

SchedulingClasses, where possible, are scheduled with a 30-minute break between classes. Students will be advised not to approach the building more than 15 minutes prior to their assigned class.

Waiting for ClassStudents will be required to wait outside Building 28. Students will be required to physically distance at a minimum of 1.5m. The area outside the main entrance will be marked with spaced waiting positions. Students may not enter until a tutor has commenced the entry process.

Entry ProcedureStudents will enter the building one at a time. They will follow the following steps:

1) Hand Hygiene2) Wellness Check3) Enter Building4) Access Lockers5) Assemble in designated area for their pod.

LockersStudents have normal access to lockers to store bags and other items. Students shall wipe down lockers prior to use using the provided wipes.

ExitEgress ProcedureStudents shall be released from class one pod at a time to avoid congestion in the locker area.

Hand HygieneStudents shall undertake hand hygiene prior to leaving the building.

LockersAfter accessing the lockers, students shall wipe down the locker, especially the main touch point areas using the available wipes.

DepartingAfter leaving the building, the students shall move away from Building 28 to minimise contact with students from other classes.

Classroom ProceduresPodsAll classes are divided into “Pods” of four to six students. These students work together for the entire semester. The aim of pods is to have clear designated work groups which minimise contact with other students. There will be four pods per practical class.

WorkspacesPod ZonesEach pod will have a dedicated work zone where they will operate during the class time. As much as possible students shall remain in their work zone.

Other AreasTo further disperse the class, students may be assigned to work outside and in the ambulance bay. Where this is occurring only one group shall work in any given area. Where possible the ambulance bay doors shall be open to increase ventilation.

Simulation RoomsStudents may use simulations rooms, however, students shall not remain in simulation rooms after the simulation and simulations shall run for a maximum of twenty minutes. No more than three people (one patient and two treating students) can be in the simulation room at any time. All observation of simulations in simulation rooms shall be done from outside the room or in a break-out room.

Break-Out RoomsStudents may use break-out rooms, however, students shall not remain in break out rooms for more than twenty minutes. No more than three people can be in the break-out room at any time and they shall be physically distanced 1.5m apart. Only the number of chairs for the maximum number of people can be taken into the room.

Equipment AreaTo minimise congestion, only one student from each pod shall access the equipment area at any time.

Air ConditioningThe air conditioning shall be on at all times when the building is occupied to ensuring air movement and filtering.

EquipmentDisposablesWhere possible disposable items (eg giving sets, masks, etc) will be turned over or wiped down between classes or simulations to minimise contact between students.

KitsKits will be maintained with as much pre-packaged equipment as possible. Kits will be cleaned by each pod at the beginning of class and cleaned again at the end of class. Kits may also be cleaned between days and classes by TSS or academic staff. Used disposables shall not be returned to kits.

Manikins and Task TrainersManikins and task trainers shall be cleaned between each student group that uses them. Pods using manikins shall clean them regularly.

Contaminated equipment and disposablesDisposable equipment which has been handled by students shall be placed in a designated “used equipment” area. This equipment will need to be cleaned by TSS or academic staff prior to re-use by students.

CleaningGeneral CleaningGeneral cleaning of the building shall be undertaken by OEC contractors as scheduled.

End of Day CleaningAcademic Staff and TSS staff will ensure key equipment is clean at the end of each day ready for classes on the next day.

End of Class CleaningAcademic Staff will ensure key equipment is clean at the end of each class ready for the next class group.

In Class CleaningStudents will be supplied with cleaning products for wiping down surfaces and equipment as required.

Physical DistancingIn Class DistancingAll activities which do not require direct student to student contact require students to be at least 1.5m from each other. Tutors shall also be 1.5m or more from students when providing instruction unless undertaking a demonstration.

Student to Student Contact and ActivitiesPPE AvailabilityGloves and face masks shall be available to students as required. Students are required bring their own face masks from 31/8. Students will be provided with advice regarding suitable types of mask to purchase. After 31 August, students arriving without their own mask will not be permitted to participate in class activities. Eye protection is already included in the required equipment for students. Students will receive training in how to correctly don and doff a mask, including disposal.

Masks and PPEStudents undertaking close contact which involves touching other students (e.g. blood pressure measurement, physical assessment) shall wear PPE. Students shall wear masks for the entire period of time within Building 28.

Staff Responsibilities and ProceduresWellness CheckSupervision of Wellness CheckOne tutor shall supervise the entry and wellness check process from 10 minutes prior to class commencing. This duty shall be rotated so it is shared between the teaching staff.

Prior to entering the facility, students will access an online form via a QR code available on posters placed on the wall outside the practical teaching facility. Students will answer the 4 key questions, then proceed to have their temperature taken by a staff member. After adding the temperature to the form, the student will submit the form where it will be stored online. If a student answers ‘yes’ to any question on the form, they will receive a prompt to immediately contact an academic.

Student who has failed wellness checkWhere a student has failed the temperature check, staff shall wait 10 minutes and then test the student again. If the student fails a second time they shall return home and instructed to seek medical advice.

If a student has failed the wellness check based on exposure, the lead tutor shall make a determination based on the information from the student about the level of risk. If a student has been at a high risk location within the timeframes provided by NSW Health, then they must be excluded from class. Contact with a suspected or confirmed CoVid-19 patient may not require exclusion from class if it was within a healthcare context (e.g. student works as a PTO) and the student was wearing full PPE to NSW Health standards at the time of contact.

If a student has failed a wellness check and is actively symptomatic, the lead tutor shall follow the University policy for a sick student on campus.
