Device Update Utility (DUU) instructions for Windows XP SP3, Vista & Win 7

1. Connect the computer to the MiFi®4620L wirelessly. Then, open a Web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the Internet.

2. Click on the following links to download the DUU and the Driver Installer and save them on the host computer

DUU : http://production.4620.verizon.mifiupdates.com/Windows/MiFi4620LWin_updt.zip

Navigate to the downloaded Driver Installer, and double-click to execute it.

3. Click Next to initiate the driver installation.

4. Select the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button, and click Next.

5. Click Install.

6. This will install the driver on the host computer.

7. Click Finish to complete the installation.

8. Navigate to the downloaded Device Update Utility, and extract the DUU application

9. Connect the MiFi®4620L device to the computer using the USB cable. The USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the host system’s USB port and the micro USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the micro USB port on the MiFi®4620L device. The OK button is activated once the computer OS detects the MiFi device. Click OK.

10. This initiates the Device Upgrade Utility. Click Next to proceed.

11. Read the License Agreement, select the I agree radio button, and click Next

12. This initiates the Software upgrade on the device. Wait for the upgrade to complete. Click Finish when complete.

System Update Instructions for Mac users

1. Connect the computer to the MiFi®4620L device wirelessly. Then, open a Web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the internet.

2. Click on the following links to download the Driver Installer and DUU to the host computer

a. Driver : http://production.4620.verizon.mifiupdates.com/Mac/MiFi4620LMac.zip

b. DUU : http://production.4620.verizon.mifiupdates.com/Mac/MiFi4620LMac_updt.zip

3. This will initiate the download of the Mac Device Update Package. Save this file MiFi4620LMac.zip to local folder.

4. Unzip the Drivers files and open the folder MiFi 4620LMac in the Finder.

5. Double click “3G_Drivers_v3.0.24-PS.pkg” to start installation of MiFi 4620L driver.

6. Click Continue to begin installation. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.

7. Click Install to proceed with the installation. Wait for the installation to complete.

8. Click on Restart to complete the installation.

9. Connect MiFi 4620L device to the computer using a USB cable. The USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the host system’s USB port and the micro USB connector of the USB cable plugs into the micro USB port on the MiFi device.

10. Double click on the MAC_DUU_3.20.11.zip to extract the contents into MAC DUU folder.

11. Go the MAC DUU folder and double click and extract the contents of DUU_Verizon_MiFi 4620L_FW3.20.11_20419660_v1.00.13.001_Mac.zip

12. Double-click and execute DUU_Verizon_MiFi 4620L_FW3.20.11_20419660.app

13. Note: If you are running OS X Mountain Lion, and you receive “App Can’t Be Opened” Alert Message, please follow these two steps to workaround this issue:

14. Right-click (or control-click) the MiFi 4620L EUT application and choose “Open”

15. Click the “Open” button at the next dialog warning to launch the app anyway

16. The following warning message pops up. Note the warning. Click OK to start the installation.

17. Wait for the DUU to check the current firmware information. Once the current Software version is retrieved the navigation buttons become active. Click Next to continue.

18. Read the license agreement, check I agree to the terms and conditions, and click Next. Wait for the Software upgrade process to complete.

19. Once the Software upgrade is complete, click Finish to exit.

Server Initiated Over the Air (OTA) Software Update Instructions

1. Power ON the MiFi device and continue with normal operation.

2. The MiFi device will check with the OTA server in the background. If a Software Upgrade Package is available, it will be downloaded to the device in the background. The current user operation will not be affected during the download.

3. Once the device downloads the SW Update Package, the user gets notified on the on-device OLED accompanied by an audible-alert. The following message will be displayed on the device OLED:

4. The user will be warned about the fact that the WiFi connections to the MiFi will be lost during the SW upgrade process, through the following message. Click OK

5. The MiFi will start updating its firmware. During the update process, the device LEDs will be blinking white, and the OLED will display the following message;

6. Once the installation is complete, the user is informed through the following message. Click OK to resume normal operation.

The MiFi device will attach to a network. Once the computer/client re-establishes a WiFi connection with the MiFi device, it will automatically connect to the network.

User Initiated Over the Air (OTA) Software Update Instructions

1. Power ON the MiFi device and continue with normal operation.

2. Open a web browser on the computer and ensure that it is connected to the Internet through the MiFi 4620L

3. Go to the Web UI by typing http://192.168.1.1 or http://vz.hotspot .

4. Log into the Web UI using the “Wi-Fi/Admin Password” specified on the back label (on the battery door and/or inside battery compartment next to battery)

5. On the Web UI, go to the Advanced > Software Upgrade tab, and click on the Check for Update button.

6. If the upgrade package is available it will get downloaded to the device. If the package is mandatory the user gets the option to install the SW now. If the user doesn’t want to install it, they can navigate away from the Web UI and continue with normal operation. The user will be prompted to install the SW the next time they power-cycle the MiFi.

7. Click on Install Now to continue with SW installation.

8. The user is presented with a warning message that WiFi connections will be lost and the MiFi will not be available during the update process. Click OK to continue.

9. Device will initiate the SW update delta package installation. Wait for the SW installation to complete.

Note: While the installation of SW is in progress, the MiFi device will lose WiFi connectivity with the host and enter a SW download mode identifiable by a blinking white LED on the device. At this point the Web UI will display the following screen.

10. Once the SW installation is complete, the MiFi device restarts and the LED changes to solid green (if 4G network acquired) or solid blue (if 3G network acquired). The device is ready for normal operation.

The MiFi device will attach to a network. Once the computer/client re-establishes a WiFi connection with the MiFi device, it will automatically connect to the network.
