The Six Kingdoms
Evolutionary Relationships
These relationships are based are based on 5 characteristics that provide clues about how species evolved:
1. Structural similarities2. Breeding behavior3. Geographical distribution4. Chromosome comparisons5. Biochemistry
Kingdom Eubacteria: contains unicellular prokaryotes
Kingdom Archaebacteria: contains unicellular prokaryotes, like
extreme environments
Kingdom Protista: eukaryotes that lack complex organ systems
Kingdom Fungi: heterotrophic eukaryotes that absorb nutrients
Kingdom Plantae: multicellular eukaryotes that are photosynthetic
Kingdom Animalia: multicellular, eukaryotic heterotrophs with cells that lack cell walls.
