The following is a short but rare Stotram on Lord Venkateshwara by Sage

Padmanabha. The following hymn appears in Skanda Puranam, Vaishnava Khanda,

Venkatachala Mahatmya and Chapter 33. A brief description of the context of the hymn is

given below.

Once upon a time, Sage Padmanabha performed intense penance on Lord Srinivasa

near Chakra Tirtha in Venkatachala (Tirupathi). His intense Tapas, which was accompanied

by acute fast (with water as the only intake), continued for 12 years and this rattled even

the Devas. Pleased with his penance Lord Srinivasa appeared before him and Sage

Padmanabha chanted the following prayer. Lord Srinivasa asked him to live near Chakra

Tirtha and continue his intense devotion. [The story continues further – a demon (Rakshasa)

attempts to kill Padmanabha but was saved by Sudarshana Chakra and so on.].

This hymn can be chanted by one and all as part of daily prayer towards destroyal of

one’s sins and removal of difficulties.
