King George VI’ reads extracts from the original Victory in Europe Speech

The parade starts, travelling along Grosvenor Road, Victoria Road, Station Road, the High Street and back to the Princes Hall, taking around 45 minutes. British wartime leader Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery (‘Monty’) will be among the re-enactors

The Mayor and ‘King George VI’ will visit the displays in Princes Gardens. Monty’ and his escort will be walking around the town centre meeting members of the public

King George VI’ and ‘Monty’ arrive in convoy at Aldershot Military Museum, Queens Avenue, with their escorts. Photographers and visitors welcome!

Take a look around the wartime exhibition between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and 11am and 3pm on Sunday. It includes displays from:

Come and browse the selection of stalls from community organisations, including SSAFA, Aldershot Military Museum and Rotary, between 10am and 5pm.

There will also be free face painting, children’s rides and refreshments available. Come and visit the Rushmoor Borough Council stand, meet our staff, try your hand at colouring, grab a balloon and take part in a lucky dip!

Watch bomb disposal demonstrations from then and now and listen to music in the bandstand.

Car enthusiasts - come and see our vintage car show featuring some beautifully preserved cars from the 1940s in the Princes Gardens car park.

Rushmoor Borough Council would like to thank Aldershot Garrison, Home Front History, Re-enactors United in Remembrance and the Hampshire Cultural Trust for helping to organise VE Day 70.

We would also like to thank all those who took part in today’s Victory Parade and Grainger Plc, SMC Motor Group and JD Wetherspoon (The Queen Hotel) for theirgenerous support.

Collections taken during today’s event are being donated to SSAFA.

Visit the vintage fair offering a variety of wartime antiques, memorabilia and militaria, between 10am and 5pm on Saturday.

The popular traditional clothing store, open for 92 years in the town, will open its third floor museum to the public, between 10am and 4.30pm. It traces the history of the town and its long links with the Jerome family.

The museum is hosting two story workshops for children, from 10.30am-11.30am and 1.30pm-2.30pm, run by Treehouse Theatre. Devise and perform your own wartime mini play, tune in for a wartime sing-along, and enjoy the Dig for Victory story “The Enormous Pumpkin”. The cost is £5 for children (3-10) with adults free. Participants also receive free entry to the museum. For more information and to book a place please ring 01252 314598.

The library is the setting for two free VE Day-themed talks. John Dickson will tell his story as a “Child of the Blitz” between 2pm and 2.30pm and Steve Wallis, author of “Hampshire Through Time”, will be reading extracts from his book between 3.15pm and 4pm. Just turn up in good time to ensure entry!
