Being a Process Audit; VDA 6.3 audit delivers results superior to a System Audit. Methodology does not allow any lacuna to escape and results & ratings are generated by a software and are fairly independent of human interpretations. Auditor has to devise questions tailor-made for the specific audit, after doing risk analysis of process using Turtle Diagrams. PARTICIPATION: Middle level process owners in all areas of businesses. CONTENTS: In VDA 6.3, the Auditor seeks to verify PERFORMANCE of the business processes. Process Audits generally, and the VDA 6.3 Process Audit specifically, verifies performance. The Association of the German Automotive industry (VDA) recommends the application of the VDA 6.3 (2016) standard to its members for implementation and maintenance of Quality Management Systems. This is because it believes, higher performance expectations from products require robust processes, which must be secure throughout the entire manufacturing and supply chain. Analysis is done in such a way that risks and weaknesses are detected in work-processes and their interfaces, for which the Turtle diagram is used extensively. Here the auditing team defines a process for which they draw up a risk analysis. Identify the input data, interfaces and associated risks. Identify the interfaces & risks for the KPIs(Objectives) as well as for the resources, support and work content (Controls). The findings are rated on an objective scaling method which delivers nearly the same results, no matter who the auditor is. This is achieved through a questionnaire, excel sheets and their macros. VDA 6.3 breaks down a typical product life cycle into seven process elements calling them P1 to P7.Out of these seven elements, the first one i.e. potential Analysis P1 applies only while assessing a new and potential supplier. The other six elements get audited after confirming award of contract and the start of regular production. Which are from how well is the Project Managed; APQP and Planning of Product and Process Design & Development a Product / Process realization or PPAP; The Effectiveness of Supplier Management, Process Analysis / Production (most elaborately done in VDA 6.3) to after sales service, resolving customer related issues and customer satisfaction.
