THE MOUNTAINEERS LAST TIME OUT (11/3/12)MOREHEAD’S 100TH WIN...La Grande, Ore- The Eastern Or-egon University volleyball team (22-6, 14-4 CCC) picked up their 10th win in a row over Southern Oregon University (18-10, 14-) to finish out the season capturing the 2nd place seed in the Cascade Conference Tournament. Midway through the first game EOU trailed 9-16 but found offense behind senior Rebecca Haights 9 point service rally and would even-tually come from behind to go on a 16-2 run and win the set, 25-18. In the second set, Eastern and Sothern exchanged points through-out the majority of the set and were tied late in the match 19-19. After a Haight kill followed by a block by Casey Loper the Mountaineers went up two and were able to finish the game, 25-22. In the third EOU led for most of the match until Southern rallied back and tied the game at 17 a piece. Southern Oregon’s Natalie Scheller went on a four point rally to give Southern a 21-17 lead. After an EOU time out the Raiders answered with a couple of kills by Mona Goudarzian and Sam Boenke to fin-ish the set, 25-19. SOU came out in the fourth ready to play. The Raiders gained mo-mentum behind the play of Natalie Scheller and jumped out to an 8-2. The Raiders never looked back and would win the set, 25-16. Going into the fifth set Eastern jumped out to a 3-0 led forcing Southern to call a quick timeout. After the timeout, the Mountaineers

extended their lead to 11-4. The Raiders fought back and closed the gap to within 3, 12-9, but the Mountaineers were too much as they would go on to win the set and match, 15-10. Tonight’s win marked the 100th career win for EOUs head Coach Kaki Morehead. After the game coach Morehead stated, “ The girls played well tonight and responded great when they needed too. I am so proud of the seniors and how they played tonight. They have given everything to EOU volleyball and have helped put this program on the map. There aren’t words to express my thanks to them!” The Mountaineer were led by Casey Loper and Rebecca Haights 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior Kaitlyn Duncan finished the game with 29 digs. Southern was led Natalie Schellers 14 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks. Caryn Westrick guided the Raiders offense with 35 assists. The Mountaineers will play next Friday in the Cascade Conference Tournament hosted by the num-ber 1 seed College of Idaho, they will open the tournament at 4 p.m. EOUs opponent will be determined in a CCC playoff game held Tues-day.
