C BiographyVaso Nikcevic was born on August 25th, 1964 in Niksic, Yugoslavia. He graduated in University of Arts in Belgarde, Serbia. From 1985 he spent fifteen years in Belgrade where he exhibited in the most prestigious galleries of the city. His art activity in this city has been kept ever since, even though for the last fifteen years Nikcevic has been living in Budva, a small city in Montenegro, lying on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.

Living in Monetnegro, Nikcevic has had many solo exhibitions in Podgorica, Niksic, Budva and Herceg Novi. In 2000 to 2003, together with five other prominent artists, he developed an art association, called “Key”. In 2001, the grand door of Paris Gallery “Drouot” was open for him.

Vaso Nikcevic was winner of many art awards, such as: award for Art Accomplishment of Association of Visual artist in Monetnegro - “Milunovic, Stijovic, Lubarda” (Podgorica, 1996), Award for Painting - “Petar Lubarda” (Belgrade, 1991).

Artist language that Vaso Nikcevic uses, fallow contemporary art flows, with tendency to translate forms to characters, with no intention of presenting a character or an object in its realistic appeal. The painter has the ability to materialize the idea, the state of mind or spirit trough the use of colors; which becomes the essential element of the overall creative process. On his large, elongated formats, thick paint is applied to form textured structure. In these, almost petrified surfaces, every step of his creation is touchable.

“Symbols can’t be read, they can only be felt. They have to be felt in a way that our conclusions about them don’t result in losing the symbolic power, meaning and the internal energy. ” -Vaso Nikcevic

“Sometimes a symbol can impose a color, but sometimes the color is what builds the symbol. The challenge between two, is what makes this type of painting unpredictable.”

“At the beginning of the creative process art is absolutely a lonely act. However,

human being as a social being has the need to always dedicate and present

himself to others.” - Vaso Nikcevic

“While painting this specific artwork, I started to searching into my internal self and my existence. I was looking for something that will represent me, my dilemmas, along with thoughts and feelings. I started from the idea that every man is unique and unrepetable, each with his own angle of perception. Finding that angle required searching deep within for anything that may have signuficantly influenced forming my character. Somehow it happened that the Montenegrian landscape became a prism throuh which I saw myself. My paintings took the abstract from my subconscious. In conclusion, I am now fully convinced that the Montenegrian landscape largely defines my character, the character of my ancestors, it is deeply rooted in my personality, in both the conscious and unconscious side.”
