PREPARATION OF CAPSULE: These are solid dosage form of medication enclosed in shell made of gelatin.

Soft Shelled Capsules

Two types: 1.Hard shelled capsules

2. Soft shelled capsules

Both these made of gelling agents like animal protein like gelatin. Plant polysaccharides like carrangeenans forms of starch &cellulose Other ingredients can be added to the gelling agent solution like plasticizers Plasticizers like glycerin or sorbitol to decrease capsule hardness Coloring agents, lubricants, surface treatment are added.

PREPARATION OF PILL:

A pill is small, round solid dosage form Give weight of each ingredient required to make pill These ingredients are thoroughly mixed in a pill motor An excipient is added an inert substance to bind all ingredients Just enough add to form stiff, paliable mass This mass made into pipe & cut into accurate pieces using pill machine

PREPARATION OF TABLETS:

3 methods of preparing tablets

1. Direct compression: Drug itself is compressible & mixed with filler that is compressible

2. Wet granulation: Powder mixture of a drug& excipients is granulated by wet methods

3. Dry granulation: The powder mixture of a drug & excipients is granulated by dry methods prior to compression

All these three methods excipients are mixed

They improve physical properties of tablets

Excipients include: BindersLubricantsPreservatives
