This research was fielded in the Colorado Lottery’s Two Cents Panel in May of 2021 and received 393 responses with an additional 21 partial completes .

The purpose of this research was to determine the appeal and purchase intent of Scientific Games’ VariPlay HD instant game family duo supported by a second-chance promotion featuring an animated wheel-spin.

Players were initially asked to rate the ticket shown in this slide, and then shown the HD symbols, and the second chance promotion.

They were then asked to rate the game with these additional features in mind and asked a series of questions about the second chance promotion and animated wheel-spin.

Data breakouts for different player groups include monthly+ MyLottery Players & Second Chance Players.

Key Takeaways

Most panel members feel very positively about Cats vs Dogs, VariPlay, the HD symbols and Second Chance component. This game should be strongly considered for a future launch in Colorado and could be a great way to direct players for an expansion of rewards and online engagement programs.

The game initially scored overwhelmingly positive with over 80% of players indicating they were at least somewhat likely purchase the game. The lowest score was 74% of players feeling positively about the appeal of this game.

Monthly+ Second Chance Players and MyLottery Drawing Players initially scored Cats vs Dogs Variplay an average of 6.8% higher than the general sample in top-3-box scores. These players should be considered a priority when looking at target audiences for any VariPlay game.

After the full reveal of the online component and explanation of VariPlay, scores among the general sample increased significantly and scores among our target groups increased somewhat.

51% of players indicated they would be more likely to purchase a VariPlay game like the one shown in this research over another comparably priced game.

The second-chance drawing was players favorite aspect of the game with 54% of players selecting this characteristic and 45% of players liked the animated wheel spin.

80% of players indicate that they liked the promotion and would enter it with 42% indicating they would buy the ticket because of the promotion. A majority of players (90%) feel positively about the second chance promotion and interactive component of the wheel spin.

Monthly+ Second Chance Players and MyLottery Drawing Players scored Cats vs Dogs Variplay an average of 6.8% higher than the general sample in top-3-box scores. These players should be considered a priority when looking at target audiences for any VariPlay game.

Cat vs Dogs VariPlay game scored well across player groups and our general sample, considering the core game features have not been revealed this is very encouraging for potential success of the game.

It should be noted that panel members are generally some of the most engaged lottery players, so this should be considered when looking at any games performance when tested in a panel.

34% of players noticed the second-chance component of the game and 30% noticed that high-definition play symbols.

Only 25% of players indicated that the game had different winning symbols.

Among monthly+ Second Chance Players and My Lottery Players we see an increase in scores from the initial ratings everywhere except appeal, which slightly decreased (-1-2%).

Among the improved scores we see an average increase among monthly+ Second Chance Players and My Lottery Players of +2.5% in purchase intent, +5% in uniqueness, & +4% in overall score.

Considering how positive the initial scores were, seeing an increase in most categories is impressive and speaks to the potential performance of Cats vs Dogs and VariPlay in general.

20% of players said they would definitely purchase both games if multiple price points were offered, with an additional 41% that indicated they might.

Only 19% of players indicated they would only purchase one or none of the VariPlay games indicating that a launch at multiple price points is a very feasible option, given players high ratings of the game and second-chance components.
