MILLING MACHINE
Milling is the machining process of usingrotary cutters to remove material from aworkpiece advancing (or feeding ) in adirection at an angle with the axis of the tool.
Classified generally as:
1.Vertical Milling
2.Horizontal Milling
Many horizontal mills also feature a built-in rotarytable that allows milling at various angles; thisfeature is called a uni ver sal table .
Milling Cutters:
1.End mill
2.Ball nose cutter
3.Hob

Surface Grinding
Surface grinding is used to produce asmooth finish on flat surfaces. It is a widelyused abrasive machining process in which aspinning wheel covered in rough particles(grinding wheel) cuts chips of metallic ornonmetallic substance from a workpiece, making a face of it flat or smooth.
Generally classified as:
1.Outer diameter grinding
2.Inner diameter grinding
Lubricants are sometimes used to cool the
workpiece and wheel, lubricate the interface, and remove swarf (chips).

LATHE
A lathe is a machine tool which rotates the
workpiece on its axis to perform variousoperations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing, turning, withtools that are applied to the workpiece tocreate an object which has symmetry about anaxis of rotation.
A tap is used to cut a female thread on theinside surface of a pre-drilled hole, while a die cuts a male thread on a preformed cylindricalrod.

Drilling
Drilling is the operation of producing circular hole in thework-piece by using a rotating cutter called DRILL.
The most common drill used is the twist drill.
Operations that can be performed in a drilling machine are Drilling Reaming Boring Counter boring Countersinking Tapping

Indicator (distance amplifying instrument)
Indicators may be used to check the variationin tolerance during the inspection process ofa machined part, measure the deflection of abeam or ring under laboratory conditions.
A dial test indicator , also known as a leverarm test indicator or finger indicator , has asmaller measuring range than a standard dialindicator. A test indicator measures thedeflection of the arm, the probe does notretract but swings in an arc around its hingepoint.

Micrometer
A micrometer sometimes known as amicrometer screw gauge, is a deviceincorporating a calibrated screw widely usedfor precise measurement of components inmechanical engineering and machining aswell as most mechanical trades, along withother metrological instruments such as dial, vernier, and digital calipers.
Micrometer thimble reading 5.78mm

Vernier Caliper
A vernier scale is a device that lets the usermeasure more precisely than could be doneunaided when reading a uniformly-dividedstraight or circular measurement scale.
Zero error
The method to use a vernier scale orcaliper with zero error is to use the formula:
actual reading = main scale + vernier scale− (zero error).

Rockwell scale
The Rockwell scale is a hardness scalebased on indentation hardness of a material. The Rockwell test determines the hardnessby measuring the depth of penetration of anindenter under a large load compared to thepenetration made by a preload.
The result is a dimensionless number notedas HRA, where A is the scale letter.
