Varieties

We continously assess the life span of plant blooms in our longevity room. Our goal is to ensure that our newest varieties always are a better alternative to existing varieties on the market.

Today, we employ around 350 people in Denmark, Turkey and Vietnam, producing 28 million plants and cut flowers a year for the European market and 70 million cuttings for the global market.

Our innovation center includes modern greenhouses for the storage and propagation of elite, virus-free plants and chambers for climate optimization.

At our nursery in Denmark, our innovation team constantly sets new market standards for kalanchoe quality and plant growing conditions. The innovation team is responsible for raw material quality control and the testing and implementation of new equipment and plant technology.

Nature has given us an excellent starting point for innovation. All Queen® plants and cut flowers have a natural robustness, which means they can withstand dry conditions and high temperatures.

Minimising our energy consumption:Our well-isolated greenhouses with multi-layer curtains and state of the art control of horticultural lighting (modern LEDs and HPS) have reduced our energy consumption considerably. Energy efficiency has also been improved significantly due to our integration of waste based district heating and extraction of solar energy from greenhouses by heat exchangers/heat pumps with the natural gas power plant for electricity and heating.

Optimizing our processes: Biological sand filters enable us to purify and recycle water used in fertilising. A 9,000 m3 rainwater tank meets all our irrigation needs, minimising our burden on the local water supply. Free of sodium and chloride, rainwater is also best suited for our plants.

MPS is recognised as the market-leading provider of CSR certificates. An MPS certificate gives Queen® customers the assurance that all products come from a transparent production line with a stamp of sustainable quality. (MPS A, and MPS GAP)

What is ethylene?Ethylene is a natural gas released from ripening fruits and vegetables, exhaust gas and cigarettes. Our ornamentals are exposed to ethylene during transportation, in stores as well as in the consumers homes.

Independent studies obtained at Nissen Consult showed, that our Queen® varieties have the highest ethylene resistance on the market. On this basis we guarantee that the Queen® varieties will maintain the full flowering potential in stores as well as in the homes.

Highest ethylene tolerance on the market!Increases shelf life and decreases wasteFlowers that cannot tolerate ethylene quickly appear faded, closed and withered. An intense innovation program at Queens breeding department has resulted in unique Queen® varieties characterized with high ethylene resistance and longevity combined with beautiful colors.
