Adult Male Adult Female Wing: 95 – 103 mm 96 – 103.5 mm Tail: 82 – 89 mm 76 – 92 mm Weight: 30 – 34 g 30 – 36.5 g Ageing: Adults (2+) Immature (2-) Juvenile Bill: black; black; brownish; Juveniles moult to an immature plumage soon after fledging; Immatures of both sexes are “brown” and retain all juvenile secondaries, primaries, greater primary coverts, alula and a varying number of juvenile outer greater secondary upperwing coverts, all or some juvenile tertials and rectrices; Immatures are readily distinguished from adult females by white fringes to tips of retained juvenile greater primary coverts and alula – white tips are absent in adult females; Immatures commence moult to adult plumage when about one year old. Sexing : The illustrations tell it all with respect to sexing and ageing by plumage; Adult males are marginally larger than adult females; Both sexes incubate.
