IntroductionInteroperable Master Format (IMF) packages are gaining in popularity for packaged delivery of media assets with metadata from production to edit to distribution end points. Leveraging “Supplemental IMF Workflows” content managers can more efficiently transfer media updates like foreign language variants as supplemental deliverables without transferring the entire package.IMF Producer for Vantage is designed to leverage the power of Adobe Premiere Pro CC for the creation and management of IMF deliverable packages, which are automatically processed by IMF Producer Actions in Vantage workflows. Content managers can process up to four simultaneous IMF package workflows and use multiple instances of Adobe Premiere Pro for package editing.Another popular use for IMF is for archiving of assets. Master IMF archive packages can contain the media essence files and original metadata, and supplemental packages can include only the different items such as language tracks, different audio layouts, foreign language subtitles and other metadata. Since IMF contains XML files that describe the supplemental assets, different versions of content can be stored with a minimum of storage space.

IMF Producer automates the creation of all files required in an

IMF package from a single output render of an Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. In addition to generating the primary package, editors can

create additional sequences, which become supplemental IMF

packages that contain different versions of audio, subtitles, edit

points, Dolby Vision HDR metadata and more.

• IMF Editing Systems can be costly and complex and include many features for editing Masters that are not required for creating and editing Supple-mental Packages

• “Supplemental” packages are created with new sequences in the same project by copying the “Master” media files over and then making edits, adding different audio files or metadata, and then exporting this sequence package to Vantage IMF Producer, which will create the Supplemental Package.

• The Premiere Pro IMF Producer panel exports XML into the Vantage IMF Producer workflow which then invokes transcoding to JPEG2000, if necessary, and builds the complete IMF Package 1.

• Later, when Supplemental Packages are created in Premiere using the same project, IMF Producer processes the changed files and metadata and keeps track of the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) codes to make sure the supplemental package is consistent with the Master, or previous packages.

The IMF Producer panel supports HDR metadata by way of a sidecar HDR file that can be extracted upstream in a separate Vantage workflow. It also supports markers on the timeline, which are translated into the IMF composition playlist.

IMF Producer Into Vantage

As the output from the panel comes into Vantage, it goes into a new IMF action, which builds the packages. This action transcodes if necessary and puts everything together. The package can them be QC’d by our Telestream Vidchecker product to check for Netflix or Photon compliance, for example, and then be sent to the distribution point with all metadata intact.

You create a new package by creating a new sequence in Premiere. The first sequence would typically be the master package, and later sequences would be the supplemental packages.

Vantage IMF Producer—what comes with it and what you might want

• IMF Producer (SKU: V-IMFPRODUCER-SW) is a per-node option for Vantage systems that provides IMF Package and Supplemental Package creation and editing, using a non-linear editor plug-in and Vantage workflows that manage CPL and package indexing for distribution to Netflix, and other destinations.

• Includes IMF Editing Panel compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CS. Panel outputs CPL-like XML to IMF Package actions in Vantage.

• Includes Vantage Workflow Actions to accept CPL/XML and create IMF-specification compliant IMF packages for delivery.

• Vantage Analysis Pro (V-ANLZ-PRO-SW) and Vantage Transcode Pro (V-XCPRO-SW) or higher Vantage transcoder required.

• Vantage Timed Text Flip option (V-TTFLIP-SW) may be required for creation and manipulation of IMSC-1 cation files.

• Post Producer is a Vantage option that is required for decoding complex IMF packages to create deliverable “flattened” outputs, and for use as proxies. Using Post Producer and IMF Producer together results in end-to-end IMF workflow encoding and decoding.

• Telestream Vidchecker is an optional Media QC tool that can check the compliance of IMF packages (and many other parameters of media files).
