PRODUCT INFORMATION
PA N D RO L VA N G U A RD provides a rail fastening system
w ith very low vertical dynam ic stiffness that leads to
high levels of vibration isolation, w ithout significant
dynam ic gauge w idening under traffic. It delivers
exceptional vibration attenuation at a m uch low er
installed cost than floating slab.
The significant reduction of vibration and secondary
noise m akes it ideal for applications in the m ost
sensitive areas to these environm ental concerns.
PA N D RO L VA N G U A RD assem blies are suitable for
application on concrete sleepers, tim ber sleepers, slab
track, bridges, tunnels and viaducts.
COMPONENTS
There are tw o basic versions of the
PANDROL VANGUARD system :
(i) a cast-in or glued-in version, w hich can be
set into a concrete block or sleeper and
(ii) a baseplate version, w hich can be fixed
dow n w ith screw s/studs or bolts.
M ost of the key com ponents of the fastening
are the sam e in both system s. These are:
•rubb er w edges w hich sup po rt the rail at
the w eb
•side support brackets w hich hold these
in place and transfer load to the
support structure
•locking w edges, w hich fix the side brackets
•shoulders w hich provide location and the
reaction point against w hich the fastening
is braced
Tw o additional features ensure long-term
security and safe operation:
•locking clips
•bum p stop pads

FEATURES OF ASSEMBLYLow Profile
The very low profile ofPANDROL VANGUARD
m eans it can be installed w ithin existing
restricted rail heights. It can provide a retrofit
solution in areas w here space or cost prohibit
the use of floating slab track. It can reduce
tunnel diam eters, and therefore costs for new
track construction.
A dditionally, its low w eight can lead to
considerable savings in the cost of structures
such as viaducts, w hich w ou ld otherw ise have
to accom m odate the greater w eight of
floating slab track.
Adjustability
PANDROL VANGUARD baseplates provide an
exceptionally w ide range of adjustm ent — up
to 55m m of lateral adjustm ent and 36m m of
vertical adjustm ent w ith the standard system .
Vertical adjustm ent is achieved by either
shim m ing ben eath the side brackets or by
shim s placed beneath the baseplate. Lateral
adjustm ent is achieved either by allow ing the
locking w edg es on the field and gauge side of
the assem bly to take up different heights,
thereby locking the side b rackets into different
lateral positions across the w idth of the rail
seat, or by m eans of slots and serrated locking
w ashers on the baseplate fixing.
Maintenance
In contrast to floating slab track, w here elastic
elem en ts are inaccessible, allPANDROL
VANGUARD elastic com ponents are easily
accessible, and can be easily inspected and
m aintained using sim ple hand too ls.
Configuration
The vertical stiffness of PANDROL VANGUARD
can be adjusted in-situ by changing the
rubber w edges, by the addition or subtraction
of rail seat pads, to satisfy local requirem ents,
such as transitions. The longitudinal creep
resistance characteristics can easily be
m odified w ithout addition or subtraction of
com ponents by varying the clam ping load .
INSTALLATION ON SITETw o different m ethodologies exist for track
construction: ‘top dow n’and ‘bottom up’. Both
the cast-in or baseplate versions ofPANDROL
VANGUARD can be installed using either
m ethod. O nly the detail of how the fastener is
attached to the rail differs w ith PANDROL
VANGUARD as com pared to conventional
fastenings; all other aspects of track
construction are unaffected.
