In four fast-paced weeks, you can get both the knowledge and hands-on business experience to help you land an exciting internship and make connections with potential employers. As a rising senior pursuing a major in Economics and a minor in Corporate Strategy, Ilana is already using the skills she learned through her Accelerator experience. A native of Westchester, New York, she loves living in Nashville and going to school at Vanderbilt.

6:00 AMWake up and get ready for a fast-paced day. It’s never the same from one day to the next.

7:00 AMBreakfast (on most days) at Owen—and (on some days) at Starbucks with colleagues on my team to review our work on one of our consulting projects or review details for a presentation.

8:00 AMOn most days, we have class after breakfast. One day it might be creative advertising. Another might be managerial economics. On the “presentation days” when groups present their ideas to a “client,” such as Nissan, we’d wait in the lobby to make our 10-minute pitch and then watch other groups.

9:30 AMOn days without presentations, our teams work on our projects until lunch. We usually have two projects running at once, which makes it feel like the real business world.

NoonCatered lunch at Owen. Depending on what our team needs to do, we often make it a working lunch.

1:00 PMFaculty host different breakout sessions for profes-sional development—like how to dress for a business environment, or how to use Photoshop, or interviewing skills. We can choose what interests us most.

2:45 PMToday, we have a class in Entrepreneurship with Professor Michael Burcham (the knowledge I got from the professors at Owen was amazing). Two afternoons a week, we’d have free time.

4:00 PMProject time again. This morning, we worked on Surgical Care Associates. Now, we switch gears to something completely different—Warner Music Nashville.

6:00 PMAfter dinner, our teams work on projects. For each client, our projects involve evaluating the 3C’s— the company, customers and competitors—and developing the “big idea” for the business challenge they’ve given us.

8:00 PMMaybe one night out of six, we’re done for the evening when the building at Owen closes. Not tonight, though!

Day in the Life: Ilana French Robbins

I knew I wanted to go into business, so I talked to other students here who had gone through Accelerator. They said it was an incredible experience—and they were right!

In four short weeks, Accelerator students handle several real-world consulting projects. Applying what they learn in class, students work in teams to devise real solutions to real business problems for five real companies. Then, competing against other teams, they present their ideas to the companies’ key executives (people you might not meet in an ordinary internship). Take a look at what past students have worked on:

Real clients. Real projects. Real opportunities.

The client: Wrigley

Wrigley is a recognized leader in confections with a wide range of product offerings including gum, mints, hard and chewy candies and lollipops. Wrigley’s world-famous brands—including Extra®, Orbit®, Doublemint® and 5™ chewing gums, as well as confectionery brands Skittles®, Starburst®, Altoids® and Life Savers®—create simple pleasures for consumers every day.

With operations in approximately 50 countries and distribution in more than 180 countries, Wrigley’s brands bring smiles to faces around the globe.

The assignment: Wrigley asked Accelerator students to be front-end innovators in the office space, in order to create new break experiences in the workplace.

The result: Accelerator teams presented their research and findings to an executive panel from Wrigley. The top two teams presented to Wrigley’s Executive Board, which included Casey Keller, President of Wrigley Americas. The winning team of eight students secured an internship with Wrigley in July to implement their findings.

I did not anticipate how much I would learn and grow from the Accelerator program and interning with Wrigley. Working on the Wrigley project, I was forced to take on an innovative approach that allowed me to think

outside of constraints. Our team created a deliverable that met all of Wrigley’s needs, which opened the door for an internship. Throughout the experience, I resorted to the skills and knowledge I gained from Accelerator.

“What Accelerator has taught me is that I am capable of

pursuing my dreams. It has developed me into a leader and team member I didn’t

know I could be.”

“I would say that this is as close to a real-world

consulting experience as you can get without being

a full-time consultant. Phenomenal experience

overall.“

“I learned a lot about the business world and bettered myself not only as a student,

but also as a person. It’s a very fulfilling experience.”
