● Equipments: anda is a delightfull example of a fine yacht designed and built for handicap races and for fast cruising . The
designer, Alfred Mylne is one of the very important names of the yachting history and his boats are among the nicest and
fastest among the classic yachts in our days. The boat was designed for himself ,to replace Medea , his old Linear rater, a
Clyde 30 class racer of 1904. But he never really had the joy of sailing on Vanda as he could not refuse the offer of mr.
Paterson who insisted to buy her still under construction at Bute Slip Dock before she was launched .Vanda has an
important sail plan ,and her lines and sailplan are similar to Gometra a Mylne design of some year earlier. Vanda received
few partial restorations in her life . Today she is structurally in very good shape and on the sailing point of view , but there
are still few necessities to make her as beutifull as she was in her early years: Change the alluminum mast and boom into
magnificient spruce spars and return to the original low cabin entrance which will make her deck plan exceptionally nice.
Naturally the higher doghouse allows more height inside , and this is why she was transformed some times ago .The
history of Vanda has been published on Classic Boat magazine twice : sept. 1990 and dic 1996 hundred years after Mylne
was born. A Chapter on Vanda is included in the magnificient little book Great Yacht designs by Alfred Mylne ,written by
Ian Nicolson , and can be found in the excellent web site of Mylne Archives
