Conclusion Van Ness Corridor vehicular and pedestrian traffic
volume, along with street width require higher lighting levels for safety compared to residential areas.
Current LED technology is suitable for roadways with less traffic and smaller widths. A LED design for Van Ness would require additional fixtures and/or closer pole spacing to provide required lighting levels.
Full cutoff fixtures will reduce the pole spacing requirements as well as induce shading in the pedestrian right of way.
Cutoff or Semi-Cutoff fixtures will reduce Sky Glow (light pollution) while maintaining suitable pole spacing, and comfortable levels of fill light.
