VAN MAHOTSAV CELEBRATIONS REPORT
Van Mahotsav, an annual pan-Indian tree planting festival was celebrated by the GMDC Lignite
Mine, Rajpardi from 2nd
July to 10th
July 2011. Mass plantation drive as well as various
competitions had been organized for children of employees and nearby school employees and
their dependents.
Van Mahotsav Inaugural function (Plantation Drive): The Inaugural Function for the Van
Mahotsav was done with great fanfare among the employees and school children. It was held on
2.07.11 at the cricket ground. The school children planted the neem trees on the periphery of the
cricket ground along with our employees.

Mr. U. K. Saha, DMS Surat Region was the guest of honor at the function.

Competitions for children of employees:
1. Poster Competition: the competition was held at the guest house in which many children
participated with great enthusiasm.

2. Essay Competition: The topic was Forest: The color of life. Children from various age
groups expressed their view on this topic.

3. Quiz Competition: Quiz on various questions on environment was carried out.

Competitions for employees:
1. Poster competition, quiz and slogan competition: Boxes for slogan were kept at
various places for employees and their dependants to put in slogans. Poster and quiz
competitions were also held for the employees.

All the staff along with their families was invited to attend the grand finale which included
plantation drive, speeches from dignitaries, and sports events for children, games for employees
and prize distribution for the events conducted earlier and Special Reward to successful
children as directed by Honorable MD.

Vriksh, a Tree Planting Programme initiated by GMDC, Rajpardi, is
organizing a Tree Plantation this season.
We have come a long way to bring this day together. Though it may be a small place,
however most of the activities from clearing the land, digging pits, making fences etc.,
have all been done with the help of the youth of both the GMDC & Tribal Communities
along with the unconditional support of the Forest Department (Jhagadia Range).All this
has been done in accordance to the Environment Policy of GMDC framed under the
guidance of Shri V S Gadhvi (Managing Director , GMDC) and an added advantage
of the enthusiasm and motivation of Mr. A. K. Makadia( General Manager, Project
)which has been a tremendous influence.
That is why this day has a special significance in our lives where we are

Van Mahotsav Programme:
The theme of the programme was “Vriksho Rakshati Rakshtah” and the tree plantation
campaign was named VRIKSH.
1. Plantation drive “VRIKSH”:
On 10th
July, being a Sunday, mass plantation drive was done to assure maximum participation
among staff their dependants and school children. Pits were dug out and plants kept ready
previously for the event to go without a hitch. Each staff member had to plant minimum two
plants viz. one by their better half and the other by their children. This function was held on the
ground adjacent to the guest house.
Fruit trees and neem were planted during this event. The plantation drive was inaugurated by
Mr. A.K. Makadia, his wife and son. Later on all the employees and their dependents planted
their own trees.

2. Sports event: Children in the category of different age groups had participated in the 100 mts
race that was organized during the Van Mahotsav Programme. Prizes were given for this.

3. One Minute Game: A one minute game was organized for unmarried boys, unmarried girls,
gents and ladies.

4. Prize Distribution: Prizes for all the competitions (mentioned above) were distributed.

A memento was given away to each family that had participated in the tree plantation campaign
as a souvenir for the day.
