It also has been a month which has challenged us all and made us focus on our children’s safety. I would like to thank parents and staff for being visible, asking questions and providing a safe and caring environment. We will continue to examine our routines and practices to make sure they are as safe as possible. Our celebrations include all the student work which is displayed throughout our building. The writing and art are magnificent. Our sixth grader performance at the vocal music festival was excellent. Our students have also attended some very educational and fun field trips. November will bring Acuity testing, the end of the first trimester, Imagination Maker Assembly and Grandparent’s Day. I continue to visit classrooms observing and teaching. I again offer lunch with Mrs. Rice and a friend for students who can share what I have done with them or their class in the past month. I will take the first 6 students whose parents respond to this e-mail [email protected]. co.us. May the coming month be filled with wonderful time with friends and family, Linda Rice, Principal

November 2012

Dear Van Arsdale Families,

October has been a busy month with conferences, celebrations and some great learning.

Our students have also attended some very educational and fun

field trips.

May the coming month be filled with wonderful time with friends and family,

Linda Rice, Principal

Van Arsdale Elementary Policy on BicyclesChildren are permitted to ride to and from school with the consent of their parents. Since bicycle riding on the street requires considerable judgment, we recommend that only children in grades 3-6 be allowed to ride their bicycles to and from school. Students must walk their bikes once they enter the school grounds. Any student who does not follow the safety rules may have his/her riding privileges revoked. Bikes are brought at your own risk. The school has no insurance coverage for lost, stolen, or broken bikes. We recommend that students bring individual locks and lock their bike and helmet together in the designated bike-parking cage. Skateboards, scooters, and roller blades/skates/heelies are not permitted at school. Students who do ride bicycles are expected to follow three basic rules:

Walk bicycles on the school grounds• Park bicycles in the designated area only• Wear a helmet•

PTSA Fundraising Thanks to all our parents and community members we raised $28,384 this year in cookie dough sales and booster club donations, $653 from the Field Day BBQ, $137 from the Pizza Hut fundraiser, $1,826 from Boxtops for Education, $162 from the Costume Exchange and Shop, and $1,303 from King Soopers cards for a total of $32,465. WOW! We have many great events and activities planned for this year enhancing our community, the arts, science and language arts. Already this year we’ve gifted to Van Arsdale $7,500 to purchase nonfiction books to support changes in curriculum, $99 for a new Lost and Found coat rack and $206 for a health and wellness cafeteria banner. We will continue to work closely with the school to find the most effective ways to make a difference in the classrooms, for the school and for our children.

Keep up the great work! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Musical Performances for Grandparent’s Day

Grandparent’s Day is fast approaching. As part of the day’s activities, students in grades 2-6 are invited to do a musical performance, either vocal or instrumental, in the library.

Students interested in performiing on Grandparent’s day need to complete a sign-up sheet and return it to Mr. Carpenter in the Music room no later than Monday, October 29th.

Because of the amount of time necessary to compile and organize the list of performers, this is a firm deadline. Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of a wonderful event and share your musical talents with our guests.

Grandparent’s Day is coming!

Kindergarten (full/am) 9:10-10:101st grade 9:45-10:452nd grade 10:20-11:20

3rd and 4th grade 10:50-11:506th grade 11:15-12:155th grade 11:30-12:30

Light snacks will be provided in each classroom/pod and beverages will be available outside of each pod. A photo station will be available for grandparents to have a picture taken with their grandchild and receive a keepsake of this special day. Guests are invited to enjoy ongoing individual music performances in the library. A schedule of these performances will be sent home prior to the event with those students who are performing. If you have more than one child that a grandparent/guest needs to visit and times overlap, most teachers begin first with their programs and then allow students to share their classroom and a snack. This may help guests plan their morning.

Please remember, parking will be limited that day. If possible, we wish to save the closer parking places for those guests who are less mobile. No parking is allowed in the bus loop; however, after 9:10 AM the bus loop is available for drop-off of those guests who need assistance getting into the building. Grandparent’s Day is a wonderful opportunity for grandparents or other special guests to spend time with your children. Please feel free to enjoy the music performances in the library while you wait for grandparents to finish in the classroom.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Diane Ranta (303)431-3669 or [email protected].

Grandparent’s Day is Friday, November 16th. Grandparents (or other “special guest” if grandparents cannot attend) are invited to spend time with students in their classrooms during the following times:
