Data Collection / Analysis
Good learning from data collection, ie focus group data far richer than questionnaire, hence now have scope to re-vamp questionnaire
Good support from Quality Improvement team who supported the data analysis and writing up of results etc
Choosing themes that were in the main a “quick fix” and using “smart “ objectives and PDSA to support us
What has gone well
All staff have the chance to be part of
servicere-design
In the main all staff have been receptive and keen to participate in the pilot within Forth Valley
Well supported focus groups for
Breast teamPatients very
motivated
Supporting ward staff in their VBS journey – which
helped to ensure a “bottom up approach”
Good support from VBS facilitators as own role
allowed
Able to share /network at
conferences, ie poster
Getting people to understand the VBS vision
Getting people to understand the methodology

VBS Team
The Challenges
Time constraints• For Staff• For VBS
Facilitators
Not always easy to access
patients if they were working
etc
Some people feel they “do all that anyway”
Delighted with how interested our patient reception staff were to hear about VBS and how they could
participate
The surprises !!!!!
Patients worried about contacting breast care nurse in case their question was silly
If you don’t ask you won’t know
Dept. of Silly Questions and Helpful Answers
Breaking bad news insensitively (medical staff)
Pleasantly surprised at how receptive medical staff were to VBS lunch time
event
Some of the feedback:• Some patients unhappy
with wire baskets for clothes in X-ray
Surprised patients did not mention waiting time at clinics
Delighted with patient
participation in
focus groups and way forward event
Real keenness from patients to be part of re-design
The Way ForwardThe Way Forward
