The Valtek Mark OneTM globe valve is noted for itsreliability, tight shutoff, positioning accuracy, high thrustand simplified maintenance. It is widely used in manyindustries.

Designed for the toughest applications, it handlespressures from vacuum to 15,000 psig / 1034 barg andtemperatures from -423° to 1500° F / -253° to 816° C.

The spring cylinder-actuated Mark One is stiff andmaintains high positioning accuracy, repeatability, con-trolled high speed and instant response. With 40 to 150psig / 2.8 to 10.3 barg air supply, it has the thrust neces-sary to shut off against high pressure differentials.

Many globe valve reliability problems can be traced tocage-guiding. The close metal-to-metal contact be-tween the cage and plug often results in galling andsticking. The Mark One is designed with double-topstem guiding, located out of the flow stream, signifi-cantly reducing the potential for galling or sticking. Trimselection is easy and many trim sizes and characteris-tics are available.

The Mark One uses the spring, supply air pressure, thefluid pressure itself, and a self-aligning seat to produceexceptionally tight shutoff. Mark One actuators areequipped with a spring designed to completely fail thevalve as needed without the use of air pressure or fluidforces.

Valtek StarPac Intelligent Control Valve System

The Valtek StarPac® Intelligent system integratesprecision control valves with digital communications,providing local single-loop measurement of flow, pres-sure or temperature. Any one of these variables canalso be controlled with local PID control action andlogging and control of the flow parameter is available aswell. Remote configuration is easily performed througha simple WindowsTM-based configuration program.

StarPac digital communication advantages are pack-aged in two configurations: StarPac is an explosion-proof unit combined with a mechanical positioner.StarPac II has a built-in high-accuracy digital positionerand can be fully configured from the membrane keypadon the front of the electronics unit.

The system provides four distinct advantages:

1. Multiple control modes allow greater control of theprocess. By distributing measurement and control tothe field, load can be reduced on a DCS.

2. Due to reduced engineering as well as a simplifiedcontrol system, process control systems can beinstalled and operated at a lower cost while improv-ing plant operation. The system also requires fewerline penetrations, resulting in lower maintenancecosts as well as greater reliability and safety.

3. Plant safety is increased with StarPac’s continuous“intelligent” monitoring of the process. This enablesit to respond to hazardous conditions with presetfailure modes as programmed by the user.

4. Maintenance procedures are improved with StarPac’sability to record and report on valve or processequipment performance. Using the included soft-ware to capture a valve or process signature andcomparing it with previous signatures, the user candetermine whether the valve or process needs ser-vicing, thereby reducing and simplifying scheduledmaintenance.

Valtek Logix Digital Positioner

Logix Series 1000The Valtek LogixTM Series 1000 digital positioner is a command-loop-powered device, which is unparalleled in its performance.Fundamental positioning control is based upon a two-stageelectronic relay (patent pending) coupled with a 16-bit micro-processor that is highly accurate, fast and responsive to large-as well as small-signal changes in the position command.

An on-board Quick-CalTM button and setup commissioningthrough DIP switches allows the user to complete setup andcalibration in less than 30 seconds without the need for ancillarydevices. On-board local status LEDs provide immediate visualindication of system status, alerting personnel to potential prob-lems and resulting in improved plant safety and less down time.

The full features of the Logix 1000 are best viewed usingValTalkTM software. This software provides such tools as user-defined limits and alarms, signatures and in-process diagnosticsof the valve, as well as the actuation system. Customizedparameters such as a 21-point custom characterization allowthe user to tailor the positioner to any particular process.

The Logix 1000 positioner is available in either HART® (Logix1200) or Fieldbus (Logix 1400) communications protocols withan aluminum or stainless steel explosion-proof housing.

Logix 2000 SeriesThe Valtek LogixTM Series 2000 is a digital posi-tioner based on the proven StarPacTM II position-ing module in the familiar StarPac II housing. Inaddition to being the best performing positioneravailable today, the Logix system provides digi-tal PID control with custom tuning, diagnosticsand data logging. The integral keypad allowsthe user to access all the tuning and operatingparameters without the use of any external con-figuration device. Configuration software is in-cluded with the Logix 2000 at no additional cost.

Logix’s ability to record and report on valveperformance through its signature utility allowschanges in performance to be identified andtracked, simplifying preventive maintenance.

Logix technology also offers multiple failuremodes including loss of power, air supply orcommand signal. This ensures greater reliabil-ity and safety for the process in case of emer-gency shutdowns, protecting the process andpersonnel.

The Valtek TrooperTM valve is a high performancegeneral service control valve with a high thrust dia-phragm actuator. It is designed for use in ANSI Class150 or 300 service applications with temperaturesranging from -20° to 650° F / -30° to 345° C.

In addition to its high thrust, the reversible actuator iscompact. An optional integral I/P or P/P positionerensures high positioning accuracy proportional to thevalve instrument signal. The integrally mountedpositioner eliminates external tubing requirements,reduces pinch points and keeps moving parts safe fromexternal dirt and damage. Reversing actuator does notrequire positioner or tubing changes, extra parts, etc.

The actuator accepts air supply pressures up to 60 psig/4 barg which allows the valve to shutoff against highpressure drops. Different spring sets are available tomeet individual application requirements. Removingthe reversible actuator from the valve is easy with itsunique yoke design and yoke clamps.

Many of Flowserve's standard Mark One valve featuresare included in the Trooper general service valve,including: heavy-duty, stem guides; self-centering,clamped-in seat ring; raised face integral flanges; multipletrim reductions and easy top-entry valve accessibility.

The Trooper valve is available in 1, 11/2, 2, 3, 4-inchvalve sizes and with carbon steel or stainless steelbodies. Valve sizes 1 thru 2-inch are also available insocketweld or NPT end connections.

With increasing concerns about fugitive emissions fromhazardous processes, Flowserve is a leader in control-ling or eliminating fugitive emissions from control valves.

The Valtek Guardian II metal bellows seal valve is theanswer to processes where packing emissions pose adanger to both personnel and the environment.

Using a formed metal bellows design with minimalwelded joints, the Guardian II has a full-cycle life of upto 5 million cycles. This ensures years of safe andreliable operation in hazardous processes rangingfrom -320° to 1000° F / -196° to 538° C and pressuresto 1100 psig / 76 barg.

A metal shroud envelopes the bellows acting as apressure boundary in service, allowing use of a single,pressurized gasket seal and preventing fluid contactwith the bellows housing during normal operation. Ex-ternal pressurization of the bellows increases cycle lifeand the maximum allowable pressure, while eliminating'bellows squirm.' The replaceable plug head allows trimchanges without changing the bellows assembly.

Flowserve assures integrity as it helium leak tests thebellows assembly. Additionally, a 'tell-tale' tape locatedin the bellows housing may be monitored visually,electronically or by pressure, allowing fast detection ofbellows failure.

Guardian II can be retrofitted from a Mark One valve bychanging the plug, bolting, bonnet, and adding a bellowsassembly, bellows housing and lower guide assembly.

Valtek Guardian II Globe Valve

The Valtek Valdisk® rotary controlvalve is designed with an eccentric/clammed disc that provides highcapacity with tight shutoff. It per-forms at pressures from vacuum to6000 psig / 414 barg, and tempera-tures from -423° to 1200° F / -253°to 650° C.

With a lightweight wafer-style body,Valdisk is available with pressure-assisted ‘Jam-lever Toggle’ seat-ing, achieving bi-directional bubble-tight shutoff, while maintaining lowbreak-out torque. Each body has adisc stop to prevent overstrokingand damage to the seat. The discpulls out of the seat immediatelyupon opening, permitting betterthrottling and minimizing seat wear.

The rotary-motion cylinder actuatoris similar to the Mark One’s linear-motion actuator. Many parts areinterchangeable between the twodesigns. The actuator is attachedto the disc shaft with a single pivotpoint, minimizing lost motion.

The Valtek MaxFloTM high performance rotary controlvalve uses an eccentric plug that provides highrangeability, zero breakout torque and durable trim witha significant increase in valve life.Designed for use in a wide variety of applicationsranging from petrochemical to low content slurry andpulp service to severe service, the MaxFlo can handlepressure drops up to 1450 psig / 100 barg. The Valtek ShearStream is a 'rugged' throttling ballvalve designed to overcome the problems of harsh,fibrous processes. ShearStream is also good for highflow, low pressure drop applications.

ShearStream's one-piece body design overcomes manylong standing challenges faced by traditional ball valves:piping forces that unevenly load the seal, low rangeabilitydue to limited orifice characterization, and unsatisfac-tory shutoff capabilities.

At the same time, ShearStream achieves the followingadvantages:

The Valtek Tiger-ToothTM control valve effectivelyattenuates gaseous and hydrodynamic noise, andeliminates the damaging effects of cavitation.Tiger-Tooth trim features a series of circular stackeddiscs; each of which has concentric grooves (or teeth)machined on the face. Flow passes from the center ofthe disc stack across the face of the discs, causing aseries of expansions and contractions of the flow. Thismechanism reduces pressure gradually across the faceof the discs without the sharp pressure drop and subse-quent pressure recovery typical of conventional, single-throttling-point trims. Tiger-Tooth trim is constructed tobe forgiving of small entrained particles that typicallyplug competitive trims or cause them to stick. The wideacceptance of the Tiger-Tooth valve in the processcontrol industry confirms its ability as a highly success-ful noise and cavitation reduction device.

Valtek ChannelStream Valve

This ChannelStream trim shows its intersecting channels and holes.Valtek ChannelStream® control valves eliminate cavi-tation damage and minimize hydrodynamic noiseeven under the most severe liquid applications. TheChannelStream cartridge is designed to produce thedesired pressure drop, while avoiding cavitation atany point. The cartridge has two or more close-fittingcylinders with drilled expansion holes. Each cylinderhas a series of circumferential, restrictive channelsmachined into the outer cylinder surface that inter-sect the expansion holes.

Valtek MegaStreamTM control valves reduce noise by upto 30 dBA in gas applications. The MegaStream attenu-ator is designed with a series of drilled-hole cylinderswhich permits staged pressure reduction and controlsthe turbulence carried into the downstream piping.MegaStream trim can be easily retrofitted to a standardMarkOne valve. Usually only the seat retainer needs tobe changed to convert a Mark One to a MegaStream.

Because of Flowserve's high degree of parts inter-changeability, many standard Mark One parts are usedin MegaStream valves, reducing spare parts invento-ries. The MegaStream control valve is cost effective inservices requiring light to moderate noise attenuation.

Valtek MegaStream DiffuserValtek MegaStream diffusers share the high pressuredrop with the valve. By design, the length of the diffuserand the number of holes vary to accommodate theflow capacity required and provide the required noiseattenuation. Available designs include standarddiffuser, standard diffuser with outer shell, and a ventdiffuser. It is available in sizes 1 thru 42-inch, and incarbon and stainless steels.

Valtek MegaStream PlateInstalled between raised-face flanges or welded onimmediately downstream from the valve, the ValtekMegaStream plate incorporates a series of stages tocontrol line turbulence and absorb the pressure drop.Up to four stages of pressure reduction can be handledwith one intrusion in piping. It is available in sizes 11⁄2thru 24-inch and constructed from carbon or stainlesssteels (other materials available).

Downstream Devices for Gaseous Noise Suppression

ValtekSurvivor TM

abrasive elements of these processes, the plug headand venturi seat are made of Stellite, tungsten carbideor hardened ceramic material. The Survivor is avail-able in sizes 1 thru 14-inch through ANSI Class 600.

ValtekTek-Check TM

Used exten-sively in the oiland gas indus-try, the Valtekpiston checkvalve featuresa special non-slamming pis-ton. This valveis also effectivein dampeningpulsating flow.The Tek-Checkvalve is manu-factured with a

clamped-in seat and top-entry design for easy mainte-nance, and is built with many standard Valtek controlproduct parts. It is available in sizes 1 thru 36-inchand is rated through ANSI Class 2500.

Using a unique'Y' style globebody, the ValtekMark Eightprovides higherflow capacitiesand less processturbulence thanconventionalvalves. A lessrestrictive flowpassage permitsless pressure tobe converted intovelocity as fluid

passes through the seat, resulting in a lower valverecovery factor and higher capacity. It is available insizes 1 thru 18-inch thru ANSI Class 2500.

Special Engineering, Manufacturing and Testing

While many control valve manufacturers routinely shyaway from applications requiring special engineering –citing a lack of time, engineering expertise, or tech-nology – Flowserve seeks the challenges involved withsuch projects. These applications test the limits of controlvalve technology with extreme temperatures, high speedoperations, volatile fluids, and high pressure drops.

For example, Flowserve engineered and built the mam-moth 30-inch 'Titan' valve, so named for its enormoussize: weighing eight tons and measuring 22 feet. Usedfor pressure reduction at a sodium pump test facility inCalifornia, Flowserve supplied two Titan valves for thecontrol of 1100° F liquid sodium at a flow rate of 80,000gpm. Even under such severe conditions, the valve wasbuilt to stroke 32 inches in 30 seconds.

Flowserve designed a sophisticated electro-hydrauliccontrol system for four 30-inch, 600 ANSI Class rotarydisc valves. Designed to control the flow of isobutaneto a high-speed turbine, the valves were required toclose in 1⁄3 second to prevent the turbine's speed fromexceeding its limit. The control system used nitrogen-

charged piston accumulators, along with complex hydrau-lics and electronics, to achieve the required closing speed.

The aerospace industry also comes to Flowserve forspecial engineering, manufacturing and testing. Usedfor the critical fueling of liquid hydrogen and oxygen, thevacuum jacketed Y-body valves were constructed andwrapped in Mylar insulation in Valtek's 'clean room'under stringent quality controls. To test the integrity ofthe valves, Valtek engineers conducted a series ofcryogenic and helium leak tests.

With an in-house engineering flow lab, Flowserve iscapable of performing many specialized valve tests:noise, cavitation, seat leak, cryogenic, high tempera-ture, life cycle, corrosion, stroke, seismic static deflec-tion, nozzle loading, vibration, actuator dynamics andenvironmental.

Flowserve is also ASME authorized to produce Class I,II and III nuclear grade valves and spare parts.Flowserve's quality assurance capability includesmaintaining material traceability of component partsand testing.
