PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Semester 1 Reports Tomorrow Semester 1 reports will be sent home so please make sure to check bags. These will look different to our usual school reports as they are a modified version due to COVID-19 disruptions. Our Semester 2 reports will revert back to the usual format. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please contact their teacher to discuss. I would like to thank the staff for the time and effort that has gone into ensuring these reports are as accurate as possible given the circumstances. PBL Rewards Day Last week the school held their PBL Rewards day. This was an opportunity for students to be recognised for their hard work both in the classroom and out in the playground. Congratulations to the large number of students who reached the top reward level, it is wonderful to see so many students trying their very hardest each and every day. Keep up the great work everyone! A huge thank you to the PBL team who work so hard to ensure our students are focused on displaying our values of respect, responsibility and personal best! Stage 3 Camp Update We have some exciting news for Stage 3 regarding camp after the disappointment of having to cancel their planned trip to Canberra. The Stage 3 team did some research and we are now booked in to go to Collaroy Centre Sports and Recreation Camp in November. This will be a wonderful camp with lots of fun and exciting activities for our students to participate in. Notes have gone out with a request for a deposit to be paid by Friday 7th August. Breakfast Club Breakfast Club is back up and running on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from the canteen. Thanks to Bec and the Year 6 Leaders for running this, and to Baker’s Delight at Wyoming for their incredibly generous donation of bread each week! NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week is a chance for us to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is usually held in July, however with current COVID-19 restrictions it has been moved to the 8th – 15th of November. As a school we will be respecting the move and will work on celebrating the week during the new dates. Emergency Evacuation Drill Last week our school took part in an emergency evacuation drill. These are undertaken twice per year to ensure students know what to do in case of an emergency. All students handled the drill well and are to be congratulated on their behaviour during it. Bike Safety I had a talk last week to our students who ride bikes to school regarding bike safety. I mentioned walking their bikes on school grounds, being patient when passing pedestrians and riding safely on the road. We would greatly appreciate that message being reinforced at home as well. School Security Over the upcoming holidays we would like to know that the school is being looked after. If you notice anything suspicious please contact the local police or the school Security Hotline on 1300 880 021 .

Holidays It’s hard to believe that Friday sees the start of the school holidays. In what can only be described as an unusual term, we have learnt a great deal with many positives to come from this experience. We’ve certainly learnt how to slow down, we have upskilled not only ourselves, but our children in the use of Google Classrooms and we have reacquainted ourselves with our students. I look forward to coming back next term for another great one and would like to thank the staff, students and community members for being so welcoming – I have certainly appreciated the warm welcome. I hope you all have the opportunity to rest and relax (with no Google Classrooms! ) ready for a wonderful Term 3 which begins for students on Tuesday, 21st of July. Staff will be on-site on Monday, 20th for staff development sessions. Happy holidays everyone!

Have a great week, Kirsty Squires

Principal

RETURN AND EARN The Year 6 School Leaders have recently had to come up with an idea for their leadership program because they couldn't do what they have in previous years because of the current Covid-19 Pandemic. We have decided to do a Return and Earn project where parents can drop off bags of cans and bottles every Friday morning from this week from 8:30-9:00am where school leaders will be waiting to collect them. The money will be going to both the Year 6 present for the School, and to Stewart House which supports vulnerable students. Wishing you the safest during these times.

Aurora and the VVPS Leadership Team

SCHOOL GATES School gates are now locked each morning at 9:30am and opened again in the afternoon at 2:15pm. If you have to come into the school please phone the office for instructions 4328 4433. There is no entry during the day through the Binya Street gate or the Elizabeth Street gate. Visitors are asked to park at the front of the school. Entry into the school will only be through the pedestrian gate next to the main driveway. We ask that you close the gate as you enter and leave.

BEGINNER RECORDERS We are excited to announce that beginner recorders will be starting back up Week 1 Term 3. Social distance within the class will apply and all students must bring their own recorder. No borrowing is allowed.

Many thanks Mrs Horncastle

P&C NEWS

P&C Meetings The next P&C General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 9th August. Please keep an eagle eye on future newsletters and our P&C Facebook page for online link information. P&C Fundraising – Cook Book The P&C are celebrating our schools 40th Anniversary by releasing a Cook Book. The hope is to include recipes from our amazing school community and release the Cook Book in conjunction with our anniversary week in October. Information will be distributed to our school community in the Week 1 of Term 3 detailing the process around entering your beloved family recipes for publishing. Now, it’s not a Cook Book without a fabulously designed front cover is it!! There will be a competition carried out within our classes as to who can create the best front cover for our Cook Book. There will be further details distributed early in Term 3 by your child’s teacher. Please note, ALL artworks completed by our students will be featured in the 40th Anniversary Cook Book. Keep an eye out for further information! All funds raised through the sale of the Cook Book will be directed towards much needed technology upgrades within the school. School Banking School banking will be resuming on the first Tuesday of Term 3 (Tuesday 21/7/2020). Please ensure your child/children have their banking booklets and money ready for collection and deposit. A big thank you to Cheronne Maughan for continuing to work with the CBA in getting this great service back up and running for our school! Breakfast Club It’s great to see our Breakfast Club up and running again. It’s a wonderful initiative run by the P&C and the school, working together! A big Thank You goes out to our wonderful School Leaders, Bec in the Canteen and our school sponsors, Bakers Delight Wyoming. Lost Property & Uniform Shop With school returning full time, unfortunately, this has meant there has been an increase in the amount of lost property around the school. Please ensure that your child’s clothing and lunch box items are labelled clearly so that the items can be returned to your child’s classroom. Please ensure that you encourage your child to go through the schools Lost Property prior to the end of Term 2 (located at the Uniform Shop) and reunite themselves with their lost and mis-placed items. The uniform shop also offers iron on labels for school uniform items for only $0.50 each. If you are interested in purchasing labels for your child’s uniform, please contact Fleur Cuttell via email [email protected]

Please also visit the P&C page on the schools’ website for social distancing guidelines for the Uniform Shop and an online order form for contact free uniform ordering and delivery.

Thanks again to our great school community for their continued support of our P&C Association.

OOSH NEWS Sign in/out Just a friendly reminder when signing children in/out, please ensure you press the blue ‘save’ bar to successfully submit their attendance. We have noticed a few parents still missing this step during the sign in/out process, requiring staff to submit children’s attendance on behalf of the parent/guardian. For those families with siblings attending, please ensure you sign BOTH children in/out as we have noticed only one child is being signed in/out, this will prevent you from having to verify and update times on your next sign in/out. Absences We have also noticed several non-notification absences during both before and after-school care sessions. Please ensure you inform staff if your child will be absent for the session/day/week via call, text or email, or log into KIDSOFT and mark them absent. Non notification of absence requires staff to leave supervision of children to make calls to locate absent children. Bookings If your child needs to attend a session they are not already booked in for, please log in to KIDSOFT and book them in, or contact the service directly. When contacting the service, your booking will not be finalised until it is confirmed by a service staff member. Confirmation is essential to ensure correct ratio/supervision of children is met per session. Over the last fortnight the children have continued to express creativity while extending their learning in a variety of ways. BSC was spent learning to tell time with many of the children engaged and excited when realising they were remembering from one day to the next how to tell time using an analogue clock. Meditation/relaxation groups have proven popular amongst the children giving them the opportunity to relax and clear their minds before a day of learning, and to self-regulate excess energy in the afternoon before heading off to engage in activities. Creative expression has been seen in the forms of collage experiences, and children’s choice colouring where the children choose favourite characters to recreate. We saw amazing patience, persistence, and concentration while construction was underway with our new building materials. A delivery of foam block replicating rocks, bricks and glass arrived much to the children’s excitement. These materials were then used to construct a castle, fortress, and water fountain in the first day, with many children replicating their own version of these things over the following days showing adaptability and self-expression. A great big CONGRATULATIONS to Jill who recently became engaged. We wish you all the happiness in the world. In collaboration with the children we have implemented a rewards system for outstanding achievements from each child during the rest of Term 2. Each child has been collecting Rewards Tokens to be used on our Rewards Day during Week 10. The children have discussed and created a menu of their favourite foods and drinks to be enjoyed during our end of term Rewards Day afternoon tea. Each child has been given the opportunity to earn as few or many tokens as they wish, with their total amount going towards selecting from their menu. The children have decided from many items to a few to be added to our menu and have even set token amounts to correspond to items. See our menu below that your amazing children created.
