Valley Key Club: Home of the Vikings

I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the

Objects of Key Club International; to

build my home, school and community;

to serve my nation and God; and com-

bat all forces which tend to undermine

these institutions.

®

Serve with us today!

WE ARE THE VALLEY VIKINGS WE ARE Valley High School, home of the Vi-

kings.

Our Key Club can be dubbed as the most di-

verse club, breaking the Key Club stereotypes.

We go by the saying, "Kill them with kindness,"

except we also add the element of service.

We aim to help not only our community, but

also the world.

We are well-known for our awesome events

like Dodgeball, and we are also the reigning

Regional Training Conference champions. We

were also our high school's biggest club, rang-

ing from over 200 members. We are part of

Division 28 South, home of the Pandas.

We took home the 2nd Place title for Fall Rally

South 2010-2011 at Six Flags Magic Mountain,

California. We are also from Region 5, home of

the Penguins. Not only are we good at service

and helping others, we are also the most spirit-

ed! Our club only grows day by day.

COLORS: Red, White, Blue and Black.

MISSION STATEMENT: Key Club is an interna-

tional student-led organization which provides

its members with opportunities to provide ser-

vice, build character and develop leadership.

MOTTO: Caring—Our Way Of Life.

VISION: We are caring and compe-

tent servant leaders transforming communities

worldwide.

CORE VALUES OF KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL:

The core values of Key Club International are

leadership, character building, caring and in-

clusiveness.

A Word from our Previous President, Jimdah Coden

As a sophomore in high school that just moved from California to Nevada, I was thrown such a huge curveball. All of

my plans of graduating with my friends from elementary school were shattered. I had to start all over again in this

place that was almost the polar opposite of what I was used to. However, something good came from this: a wonder-

ful organization called Key Club International.

I still remember my first meeting. It was in Room 600 and my new friends urged me to check it out. When I got there, it

was crowded and suddenly the president started screaming and then everyone did as well. I was so confused on

what was going on, but as he went on, I learned about Key Club and its events like Fall Rally and RTC. But there was

something else that I saw in that room: unity and inclusiveness. Even though I didn’t know anyone, they still welcomed

me into the club and you could just feel that bond between everyone. It didn’t matter what grade you were because

you were all there for the same purpose, which was to serve the community. I would go to service events and I would

see the same faces and we would hang out after and it was just an awesome feeling to know that I was able to help

others out as well as get to know my peers better. Over time they became my own little family; they were my ohana.

As time passed by, I rose through the ranks. I began with being the Sophomore Representative, then the Vice Presi-

dent, then the President. Looking back, I never would have thought that I could be in this position right now, writing my

farewell to you all. I never saw myself as a leader but always just as a member. However, my time in Key Club has

opened my eyes to reality that nothing will change unless you work for it. I couldn’t just stand on the sidelines forever; I

had to step up to the plate.

In retrospect, I am just grateful for all of you who decided to invest your time and money into this organization. I am

glad to have seen your faces and interacted with you because you guys were like my little cubs and I was your Mom-

ma Bear. I loved seeing all of you grow and mature as people as well as seeing your dedication increase. I am so glad

to have been able to serve all of you as this year’s President. Granted, not everyone is perfect. I know that I have my

flaws. But I just hope that you don’t take my mistakes and shortcomings and turn it into a reason to quit. This club

thrives when the level of dedication is apparent, and I don’t want to see the light of this club become dimmer.

To conclude my farewell, I just want to leave you all with a few words that I hope will stay with you. First is to never give

up. Always persevere because what’s worse than falling is not getting back up. You will face many obstacles but you

won’t surpass them unless you try. Next is to never doubt yourself. The only person stopping you from becoming the

best you can be is yourself. Never limit what you can do, because the opportunities out there are endless. If you are

just a member now, who knows, you might become the next President, Lieutenant Governor, or maybe even the new

International President. As long as you put your mind to it and give it your all, you can get quite far in life. I am so hon-

ored to have been able to serve you all as this year’s President and be a part of this club. No. This family.

For the last time,

IP Key Club President

A Word From our New President, Jennifer Nguyen

Greetings Key Club Members!

My name is Jennifer Nguyen, and I am serving as YOUR club’s president for the 2013-2014

term. I have been a member of Key Club since my freshmen year, and I have had many life

changing experiences at events such as Key Leader and District Convention because of this

wonderful organization. I actually never thought that I would be your president or that I would

hold any office. However, this all changed throughout the years. I hope that I can give you a

similar experience to what I have had. I hope to become your inspiration to serve.

For this year’s term, I would like to increase the number of service we do; that means that

we will have summer events. Starting September 2013, I am aiming for our club to have at least

four community service events and two fundraisers every month to keep members interested.

My goals for Region Training Conference will be one hundred members attending. I believe that

with our new board, we can accomplish this as long as we all give in one hundred percent ef-

fort. Additionally, Key Club meetings will now share motivational talks and videos. I would also

like to unite our club as a family. I am also willing to implement any ideas that you, the members,

have as well, so feel free to contact me!

In the spirit of service,

Jennifer Nguyen

Saying a simple

Is never easy As the new Key Club year begins, not only is the key club year re-

newed, but the members and the officer positions are as well. This

means that positions will be given up, and soon, our fellow members

must graduate and leave our club.

During the 2012-2013 key club year, I was able to work along with

many people with unique personalities and amazing viewpoints on

certain situations within our club. It is with a wrenched heart that I

dedicate this page to the members that leave our club in the

month of June, and I hope you the very best in your future journeys.

Is never easy

Pictures from Kiwanis 1 Day On April 6th, our key club members attended K1 Day

(Kiwanis One Day). In which the objective was to meet

with their Kiwanis advisors, and make mats for the

homeless using plastic bags.

These were the pictures taken at the event.

Key Club Executive Board 2013—2014

I am so excited for the new school year! I plan to work efficiently with the board for the members to have

the greatest member experience in Valley Key Club history. I hope that we recruit new members and

that old members come back to see the new ideas we have in store! My goal for membership this year is

one hundred and fifty members.

This will be quite the challenge. Being a Key Club board member is a lot of work, but I think that all we do

is definitely worth it. The members and service serve as my inspiration for actively participating in Key

Club.

What about you? Did you know? One of our Key Club’s core values is inclusiveness. Key Club is our

Ohana; and Ohana means no one gets left behind.

Key Club Executive Board 2013-2014

Hey there! I’m Karl Catarata, and I am the Technology Editor of Valley Key Club 2013-2014. As the recent

Freshman Representative, I’ve seen how our Key Club has progressed through the months that I’ve been a

class representative. In voicing the opinions of my fellow peers, I am able to communicate our club’s issues

and topics clearly and efficiently.

As the new technology editor, I will use my previous skills as a representative to clearly communicate with our

club’s members, and members in other clubs as well. I look forward to working with our future key club mem-

bers, and I will make sure I contribute a part in making this year a key club year to remember.

Through communication and service,

Karl Catarata.

My name is Joseph Aquino, and I am the treasurer of Valley Key Club 2013-2014. I have been in Key Club

since freshman year, and I am really excited to be the treasurer. I’m ready for the new Key Club year, and I

will be preparing some cool cheers for us Key Clubbers.

As a Key Club board member, I am the treasurer. So I basically handle the club’s funds, collect member dues,

and other stuff. I will also try to find some cool ways to fundraise money for the club. I will try to be the best

treasurer!
