Chatter with Cathy
Recently, I was driving into Philadelphia and noticed that the leaves
were changing colors. Many yellows and a few reds among the
somewhat still green leaves on the trees and my mind wandered to
quilting and where one finds inspiration for their quilts. Attending the
Oaks Quilt show was really inspiring; for me it was the first time I saw
a totally hand appliqued and hand quilted quilt win a blue ribbon, im-
pressive and inspiring. Visiting local quilt shops offers great inspira-
tion in seeing their projects/kits and actually feeling the fabric. We
should visit these local quilt shops or they will no longer be around. I
really miss the Fall Shop Hop which was another great source of inspi-
ration but there are not enough local quilt shops to support this an-
nual event. Reading quilt magazines always gets my mind churning
with possibilities for the next quilt or quilts. The Guild Annual Chal-
lenge, which will be held at our October meeting, inspires us to be
creative and think outside the box. Lastly, I get inspiration from you,
our members, with all the magnificent quilts and quilted objects you
share. Keep it up!

Challenge
Ladies, let’s finish it up for the Color My Quilt
Challenge! Put away your crayons, paints, col-
ored pencils, and markers. Write on your 4 x 6
index card the title of your creation and a little
about the inspiration for your quilt. Bring your
quilt in a brown paper bag by 6:30 p.m. the
night of our October meeting. Remember to
cover your label if it has your name on it. De-
liver it to one of our challenge committee

nouncement of our 2017-2018 challenge will
follow the awarding of ribbons. Thank you for
your participation. I hope you had FUN.

and another Challenge
Whole? Hole? Guilds in Pennsylvania and oth-
er states will be participating in the hohl chal-
lenge. When we participate, our quilts will
travel to be enjoyed by other guilds and all
those other quilts will visit us. A great oppor-
tunity to share quilting far and wide. Talk to
Phyllis Manley or go on their website:

Here is the recipe for Cranberry Almond
Wedges that Barbara Hughes made for our
September guild meeting. They went like hot
cakes.
CRANBERRY ALMOND WEDGES
(1) 7 ½ oz. package of Sugar Cookie mix (Betty
Crocker)
¼ t. almond extract
½ c. butter
1 T. milk
¾ c. sliced almonds
1 c. dried cranberries
Course or granulated sugar
• Preheat oven to 350*. Line two 9 ½” round
cake pans with foil, extending the foil over the
edges of the pan. Set aside.
• Place sugar cookie mix in a large bowl.
Sprinkle almond extract over the mix. Using a
pastry blender, cut the butter into the mix until
it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in dried cran-
berries. Dough is crumbly. Divide this mixture
between two prepared pans. Press dough
firmly into the bottom of the pans. Brush the
top lightly with milk. Top with almonds and
sprinkle with sugar.
• Bake for 18-20 minutes or until centers are
set and tops are lightly browned. Cool the
pans on wire racks. Using the edges of the foil,
lift the cookie rounds out of the pan. Cut each
round into 16 wedges.
Makes 32 cookies.
Thank you all for the beautiful star quilt given
to me at the September guild meeting. Scrap
quilts are my favorite! Thank you for sharing
your scraps and kind sentiments with me. I
will treasure this quilt always.
