OF THE WEEK
Success in life is usually preceded by success in school.
Children who attend school regularly, who do well in their lessons, and
who learn to make friends are significantly more likely to find
employment and are less likely to engage with criminality or anti-
social behavior. They are children who in all probability experience
healthy emotional and intellectual development. Thus, promoting
and providing a safe and supportive learning environment is an
essential function for any school. Stonyhurst Southville International
School (SSIS) takes pride in saying that it nurtures and protects
students by providing an atmosphere conducive to learning.
Making the school a place of safety and a nurturing
community of care is an essential part of the development of the
learners. In Stonyhurst, we give much importance to the safety of the
learners. The school has different Security Personnels who make sure
that the students will be safe in entering the school and that they will
be fetched by the right parents, guardians, or the authorized fetchers.
The Security Personnels also make it to a point that no one or nothing
from the external surroundings of the school may bring any harm to
the students. Also, the school ensures that there is safety and security
plan for all of its activities.
Moreover, the presence of the caring Ates and Kuyas of the
school is also a significant indication that the school would like to
make the learners feel secured and taken care of. The Ates and
Kuyas are always there to lend a helping hands to the younger kids or
even to the older ones. As what everyone would say, “Ates and Kuyas
are just one call away”. They always make themselves available
when needed.
In addition to that, the teachers and staff of SSIS significantly
contribute in making and maintaing a positive learning environment.
The teachers are caring and are practicing Positive Learning
Environment through Discipline (PLED) in their classes. To add, the
teachers and staff are practicing the concepts of grit and growth
mindset which allow the learners to view themselves and their abilities
positively. Hence, the mentors of the Valiant Knights serve not only as
instructors but also as guides.
Most importantly, SSIS has a comprehensive Child Protection
and Anti-bullying Policy. The school upholds the rights of the children
and it protects each and every learners. We strive to ensure a culture
where all acknowledge and understand that student protection is the
responsibility of everyone. We believe that student protection is an
integral part of students’ wellbeing. Some inputs taken from: http://www.goodenoughcaring.com/the-journal/how-nurture-groups-help-children-in-schools/
