by 20 schools from Region IV -A (Calabarzon).

Sixth Graders, placed Third in the Sixth Grade team Category.

Moreover, Maria Bernadette Landicho, Fifth Grader,

bagged the third place while Juan Rafael Landicho, Sixth Grader,

got the Second Place in the Fifth Grade and Six Grade Individual

Category, respectively.

The winners received medals, certificates, and cash prize

from Metrobank. In addition to that, the school was given a

trophy of recognition for its outstanding students who participated

in the said competetion.

With the necessary preparations and trainings, as well as the hunger to achieve, the Valiant Knights made it to the SGEN Academic Olympiad.

The Southville Global Educational Network (SGEN) Academic Olympiad is an

annual competition participated in by different SGEN schools like Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), South Mansfield College (SMC), Stonyhurst Southville International School (SSIS) Batangas, and SSIS Malarayat. The SGEN Academic Olympiad is divided into three contests: Spelling Bee, Quiz Bee, and Impromptu Speaking Contest. For this Academic Year, SSIS Batangas hosted the said event.

Nicola Jade Caparas, Ninth Grader, dominated the Spelling contest. She defeated the 49 other contestants from different SGEN schools. Nicola was challenged to spell five championship words until she got her winning word.

Moreover, SSIS Batangas placed Third in the Quiz Bee. The team was composed of the following students: Alexia Nicole Tan, Carla Lorraine Len Delas Alas, Iana Isiss

Jamela Portugal, Dzaki Dzikril

OF THE WEEK

Success in life is usually preceded by success in school.

Children who attend school regularly, who do well in their lessons, and

who learn to make friends are significantly more likely to find

employment and are less likely to engage with criminality or anti-

social behavior. They are children who in all probability experience

healthy emotional and intellectual development. Thus, promoting

and providing a safe and supportive learning environment is an

essential function for any school. Stonyhurst Southville International

School (SSIS) takes pride in saying that it nurtures and protects

students by providing an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Making the school a place of safety and a nurturing

community of care is an essential part of the development of the

learners. In Stonyhurst, we give much importance to the safety of the

learners. The school has different Security Personnels who make sure

that the students will be safe in entering the school and that they will

be fetched by the right parents, guardians, or the authorized fetchers.

The Security Personnels also make it to a point that no one or nothing

from the external surroundings of the school may bring any harm to

the students. Also, the school ensures that there is safety and security

plan for all of its activities.

Moreover, the presence of the caring Ates and Kuyas of the

school is also a significant indication that the school would like to

make the learners feel secured and taken care of. The Ates and

Kuyas are always there to lend a helping hands to the younger kids or

even to the older ones. As what everyone would say, “Ates and Kuyas

are just one call away”. They always make themselves available

when needed.

In addition to that, the teachers and staff of SSIS significantly

contribute in making and maintaing a positive learning environment.

The teachers are caring and are practicing Positive Learning

Environment through Discipline (PLED) in their classes. To add, the

teachers and staff are practicing the concepts of grit and growth

mindset which allow the learners to view themselves and their abilities

positively. Hence, the mentors of the Valiant Knights serve not only as

instructors but also as guides.

Most importantly, SSIS has a comprehensive Child Protection

and Anti-bullying Policy. The school upholds the rights of the children

and it protects each and every learners. We strive to ensure a culture

where all acknowledge and understand that student protection is the

responsibility of everyone. We believe that student protection is an

integral part of students’ wellbeing. Some inputs taken from: http://www.goodenoughcaring.com/the-journal/how-nurture-groups-help-children-in-schools/
