Vail Resorts commits US$100 million in

resort improvements

Vail Resorts will invest approximately

US$100 million in resort improvements for

the upcoming winter, bringing its six-year

resort investment total to more than

US$600 million. Scheduled improvements

include building a new, 490-seat restaurant

at the top of the Peak 7 chairlift in

Breckenridge, an area not currently served

with a major food and beverage venue.

The Sun Up chairlift at Vail Mountain (Chair

17), will also be replaced and upgraded

from a fixed grip triple to a high-speed four-

passenger chairlift, making every major

chairlift on Vail Mountain a high-speed

chairlift.

The Pines Lodge at Beaver Creek, A

RockResort will receive a significant

renovation of its hotel rooms. The new

mountain modern design will be the perfect

complement to the property’s European

charm.

The Company’s capital plan also includes

the beginning of a two-year process to

revamp its primary websites to a single

'responsive‘ desktop/mobile platform which

will be integrated with data-based and

personalized marketing technology making

it more user friendly. Vail Resorts will also

be further upgrading its customer database

and call center technology.

Agree To Strategic Combination

Vail Resorts, Inc. and Whistler Blackcomb

Holdings, Inc. announced that they have

entered into a strategic business

combination joining Whistler Blackcomb

with Vail Resorts. Under the transaction,

Vail Resorts would acquire 100 percent of

the stock of Whistler Blackcomb.

Whistler Blackcomb is the largest resort in

North America (8,100 acres; 3,278

hectares) and one of the most iconic

mountain resorts in the world with an

incredible history, passionate employees

and a strong community. The mountain

resort is located 75 miles (121 km) north of

Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada.

Famous for hosting the alpine skiing events

of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics,

Whistler Blackcomb is also well known for

its Peak 2 Peak Gondola, the longest and

highest lift in the world. At 2.7 miles (4.4

km), it takes 11 minutes to ride from the

high alpine terrain of Whistler Mountain to

Blackcomb Mountain (and vice versa),

effectively connecting the two great

mountains.

Upon completion of this transaction, Vail

Resorts is committed to continuing Whistler

Blackcomb’s success and building on its

strengths, including further investment in

the resort and the community.

For the full 2016-17 winter season,

Whistler Blackcomb will continue to honor

the resort’s existing season pass products.

Vail Resorts looks forward to integrating

Whistler Blackcomb into its Epic Season

Pass and other season pass products for

the 2017-18 winter season.

Epic Discovery

Introduced in 2012, Epic Discovery is a

comprehensive summer activities plan

designed to connect kids and adults with

our national forests in an active, fun and

engaging way. Through a partnership with

The Nature Conservancy, Vail Resorts will

bring scientific the eco-discovery

experiences at Vail Mountain, Breckenridge

and Heavenly; and will contribute one

percent of all summer lift ticket and activity

revenue toward forest restoration projects.

Epic Discovery activities include mountain

coasters, canopy tours and summer tubing

at Vail, kids’ activity infrastructure at

Breckenridge and an alpine coaster,

canopy tour, rock climbing wall, kids’

activities and mountain tours at Heavenly.

Vail Resorts is investing approximately

US$14 million in calendar year 2016 for

Epic Discovery summer activities. This

capital is focused on additional canopy

tours, zip lines, climbing walls, hiking trails

and nature education programming

primarily at Breckenridge, with more

modest spending at Vail and Heavenly.

NEW: Four-Passenger Sun Up Express

Vail Mountain's ninth new chairlift in the last 10

years will be the replacement of the Sun Up Lift

(#17) with a four-passenger lift to debut this

winter. The new Sun Up Express (#9) will be a

primary lift on the Back Bowls of Vail Mountain,

serving intermediate and advanced terrain and

dispersing skiers and snowboarders into the

legendary Back Bowls.

The new lift will reduce wait times and improve

skier and snowboarder circulation. The current

lift – a Doppelmayr fixed-grip triple– was

installed in 1979 at Beaver Creek and

relocated to Vail in 1992. The new lift will

increase capacity by 65 percent and reduce

the average ride time from 8.2 minutes to 3.9

minutes. The increase will relieve pressure

from the High Noon Express (#5) with more

guests using the new lift rather than cycling

back to the bottom of the Back Bowls. The new

lift is the ninth lift replacement in the last 10

years at Vail and will make all major lifts at Vail

high-speed.

The Arrabelle at Vail Square, A

RockResort Receives a Refresh

The Arrabelle at Vail Square, A RockResort,

has transformed its look and feel with a healthy

refresh, which debuted in June 2016. The

property’s location, just steps from The Eagle

Bahn Gondola, as well as its alpine chalet

charm and impeccable service, have made it a

favorite among visitors. Upgrades included soft

seating and carpeting updates in all 36 hotel

rooms, a renovated workout facility including,

new and expanded cardio equipment, HD

television integration, high impact flooring, and

a separate core/stretch zone, a new

HydraFacial offering at the RockResorts Spa

and much more.

An On-Mountain Culinary Experience

On Oct. 15, 2016, Vail Mountain’s Executive

Chef of Game Creek Club Restaurant Steve

Topple will represent the resort and Game

Creek Restaurant in New York as the feature

chef at the James Beard House. Chef Topple’s

custom menu for the evening will feature local

Colorado items, such as a Smoked Colorado

Trout Corn Fritter with Chive Cream Sauce,

Colorado Lamb Tartare with Quail Egg and

Lemon Caper Chutney, and Rocky Mountain

Elk Tenderloin with Foie Gras Potato Puree,

Smoked Morel Mushrooms and Huckleberry

Sauce. This marks Chef Topple’s third dinner

at the James Beard House and is a reflection

of the culinary excellency of Vail Mountain and

its on-mountain fine dining establishments.

Vail Mountain Ski and Snowboard

After a grueling four-day competition and

selection process held last spring in

Breckenridge, Colorado, the Professional Ski

Instructors of America and the American

Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-

AASI) announced the names of the PSIA-AASI

members selected from 81 total candidates to

serve on the 2016-20 PSIA-AASI team. The

new PSIA-AASI team comprises 30 men and

women selected from among the best

Signature events and new partnerships

The Mile High event and Australian Junior

Series will continue to run at Perisher’s

PlayStation Slopestyle Terrain Park for the

2016 season bringing the youngest and most

promising talents in the country together with

the biggest international names in the sport.

Perisher has recently signed new agreements

with both PepsiCo Australia and Red Bull

Australia; and is working with these new

partners on a range of exciting events to be

launched in early winter. Both companies are

also key partners with Vail Resorts.

Early season snowmaking

In recent years Perisher has invested over

AUD $25 million in snowmaking upgrades to

cover 53.4 hectares across the resort.

The recent upgrades have seen much of the

snowmaking system become automated

allowing Perisher to make even more snow

across the resort and Tube Town, confirming

Perisher’s reputation as having the most

reliable snow in Australia. It also ensures that

Perisher continues to make snow more

efficiently.

Trail Improvements

On the heels of Guthega’s 2014 chairlift

upgrades, this summer saw significant work

around the top station of the Freedom Chairlift

improving access in all directions to the great

skiing and boarding in Parachute, Woodpecker

and Wombats.

The Blue Cow way will be vastly improved for

the 2016 winter with work to widen and level

this major trail back to the Blue Cow Terminal.

The work undertaken in this area will mean it

requires far less snow to open and improve the

experience here for all standards of skiers and

boarders.
