DIRECTOR’S NOTE It comes full circle. I danced to Eve Ensler’s words my senior year of high school; her poetry carried me into Princeton… or so I would like to think. The Vagina Monologues and I am an emotional creature, two of Eve’s most seminal collections of female testimonials, poetry, and advice to women and young girls, have been on my mind for a very long time. To see this project materialize my final year at Princeton is probably the most rewarding outcome of my time on campus. Surrounded by the most supportive group of friends – men and women, I have adapted, directed, and choreographed The Vagina Monologues into a mosaic of texts, sounds, and visions pertaining to female identity. Challenging and updating Eve’s vision, we have created a space to move and groove to her radical words while remaining authentic to our own being and existence. Vagina, or vag for short. I owe a big MERCI to Professors Jill Dolan and Tim Vasen for talking me through this rich material, for allowing me to not be afraid of the Vag. To Sam Maeglin (stage manager), the most loyal zee a PAA could ever have. To my entire cast of beloved friends who move me to my core. And finally, I dedicate this piece to my parents, who raised me to be the strong and fervent feminist I am today. You are my rock, my number one fans, and I love you with all of my beating heart. ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Andrew Klutey 2015 Woodrow Wilson School Ridgefield, CT I love all of you! Byron Sanborn 2016 Evolutionary and Environmental Biology Hong Kong/Palo Alto, CA Excited to be in this awesome performance, the intensity at rehearsals has been inspiring. Dana Fesjian 2017 Electrical Engineering Pelham, NY I am so happy to be a part of this show and spreading the message that women are powerful, but that men are powerful too and working together is the way to really change the world. David Paulk 2015 Computer Science Pittsburgh, PA It has been so much fun preparing for this performance with Urban Congo. Thank you Maddy for coordinating this incredible show! Diogo Adrados 2015 Computer Science Jupiter, FL Thanks, mom! Evelyn Giovine 2016 English [Certificate: Theater] Rumson, NJ “A strong woman understands that the gifts such as logic, decisiveness, and strength are just as feminine as intuition and emotional connection. She values and uses all of her gifts.” – Nancy Rathburn Grace Singleton 2016 Religion [Certificates: Dance and European Cultural Studies] Williamstown, MA “Know you are the type of woman who is searching for a place to call yours. // Let the statues crumble. // You have always been the place. // You are a woman who can build it yourself. // You are born to build.” - Sarah Kay Jack Thornton 2015 Anthropology [Certificate: Film Production San Diego, CA Jack swore to herself as a freshman that she would be in this show before she graduated. Now, as a senior, she's finally discovered her inner goddess and is delighted to moan onstage for you, and, more importantly, for herself. Madeleine Planeix-Crocker 2015 French and Italian [Certificates: Contemporary European Politics and Society, European Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Theater] Paris, France/Los Angeles, CA Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun, Nefertiti, Isadora Duncan, Olympe de Gouges, Camille, Louise Labbé, Eve Ensler : merci!

Maria Yu 2016 Architecture Los Angeles, CA I had never really identified myself as being a feminist. In fact, I had never really given much thought to the female empowerment movement. I am me, I am confident, I am comfortable with myself, and that's that. However, throughout the production of this show, surrounded by so many talented and beautiful females and males, I have grown to embrace my femininity and more than ever before, I am proud to say that I am a woman. Melissa Bales 2015 History Locust Valley, NY Melissa is a feminist for a myriad of respectable reasons. Mainly, she recognizes the under-appreciated ability of menstruation as a means to remain in tune with the moon and tides. Michael Hauss 2016 Computer Science Huntington Beach, CA Men and women are the smooth, percussive rhythms of urban congo: unique, yet fundamentally reliant on one another in the formation of a masterpiece. Rachel Schwartz 2017 Art History [Certificate: Dance] Santa Monica, CA I am an avid, angry, active feminist, dutiful daughter of lesbians and a particularly proud vagina owner. I’ve been doing a lot of weird art shit lately, so I am always down for dialogue on equality and am ready to dance anytime, anywhere. Robin Palmer 2015 Slavic Languages and Literatures Amherst, MA “It's the fire in my eyes, / And the flash of my teeth, / The swing in my waist, / And the joy in my feet. / I'm a woman / Phenomenally.” - Maya Angelou Sam Maeglin* 2018 TBD Bronx, NY I'm thankful to have been surrounded by strong female figures and the arts throughout my life. My participation in Vag is the integration of these two life influences! Silvia Lundgren 2015 History [Certificate: Dance] La Canada, CA Silvia has spent most of her time at Princeton directing an all-girls dance company, writing history papers about powerful women, and watching Beyoncé videos till she is so inspired that she starts crying. Tyler Lawrence 2016 Politics Franklin, TN My sister is 5'1", but she could probably beat up her twin brother. Some people may disagree, but as far as I'm concerned that's fucking awesome. Zachary Ridout 2016 Economics Mission Viejo, CA I've never been a part of anything like this, but all in all it has been an amazing and empowering experience. *Stage Manager
