    This Users Guide has been designed to help youget the utmost satisfaction from your BISSELLPowerForce. Youll find assembly and operatinginstructions, safety precautions, as well asmaintenance and troubleshooting instructions.Please read this Guide thoroughly beforeassembling your vacuum cleaner.

    Pay particular attention to the product diagram,assembly instructions, and part names. Locateand organize all parts before assembly. Followingthis Users Guide will greatly enhance your abilityto get the most performance from your BISSELLPowerForce for many years.

    The only tool youll need to assemble yourvacuum cleaner is a screwdriver.

    Attach handle to vacuum

    1. Stand the vacuum upright and slide the baseof the handle firmly into the grooves at the topof the vacuum body.

    2. Check to be sure the handle is fitted to thevacuum body. If there is a gap in front, continueto push firmly until the handle is flush.

    3. Insert one screw from the assembly packetinto the existing hole in the back of thehandle. Tighten securely with a screwdriver.

    Attach vacuum hose and tools

    1. Position the hose collar on the back of thevacuum as shown.

    2. Attach the hose collar with two screws fromthe assembly packet. Tighten securely witha screwdriver.

    3. Line up the tabs on the base of the Twist n SnapHose with the corresponding tab notches on thehose collar as shown. Turn the Twist n Snap Hoseto the left to lock the hose into place.

    4. Grasping the Quick Reach Handle, slide theend of the hose wand onto the suction intakeopening. Snap the hose into the hose clip.

    NOTE: The powerfoot will not operateeffectively unless the hose wand is firmlyattached to the suction intake opening.

    5. Place the crevice tool inside the extension wandand slide them into the storage clip as shown.

    6. Snap the combination upholstery/dusting brushtool into the storage clip as shown.

    Tip:Hair, string and small

    objects can blockthe vacuum hose ortools. Check themoccasionally forobstructions. SeeTroubleshootingGuide for instructions.

    CAUTION:The rotating floor brush continues torotate while tools are in use. To reducethe risk of injury from moving parts,always move the vacuum cleanerwith the carrying handle at the backof the cleaner. Always place vacuumcleaner on floor with handle in uprightposition when using tools. Never placeyour fingers under the vacuum cleanerwhen it is running. Never placepowerfoot on furniture or unevensurfaces. Do not place vacuum cleanerclose enough to objects to pull theminto rotating brush.

    Handle position

    Press the handle release pedal with your foot toplace your BISSELL PowerForce into one of threecleaning positions.

    1. Upright- For storage and above floorcleaning with special tools.

    2. Normal Cleaning- Press handle releasepedal once. Use for most household floorcleaning tasks.

    3. Low Cleaning- With the vacuum in normalcleaning position press handle release pedalagain. Use for reaching under low furniture

    such as tables, chairs and beds.

    Powerfoot height adjustment

    The powerfoot/rotating floor brush on your BISSELLPowerForce can be adjusted to clean severalfloor surfaces.

    NOTE: For optimal cleaning performance,adjust to the lowest practical setting. Ifyour cleaner is difficult to push, adjust tothe next higher setting.

    1. Place handle in upright position.

    2. Turn floor surface selector to desired setting.Lowest Setting - For bare floors.Medium Settings - For short and medium

    pile carpets.Highest Setting - For plush pile or Berber

    carpet.

    3. Place the handle into the normal cleaningposition and the powerfoot will adjust to thesetting chosen.

    NOTE: You may also adjust the setting whilein the normal cleaning position.

    Special tools

    Your BISSELL PowerForce is not only a powerfulcarpet and rug vacuum cleaner, its also aversatile above floor vacuum cleaner when youselect one of the special tools.

    1. Raise handle to upright position.

    2. Grasp the quick reach handle and lift up toseparate from suction intake opening.

    3. Attach tools by firmly pushing onto hosewand or extension wand.

    Operation

    Tip:Before cleaning under low furniture,check area first for objects that mightharm the unit or block the vacuum hose.

    Special tools

    Combination upholstery/dusting brush tool:Two types of cleaning tools are included in oneattachment: rotate for desired tool.

    Use brush side to dust furniture, blinds,books, lamps, shelves.

    Use upholstery side for curtains,draperies, cushions, fabrics.

    Crevice Tool: Use in tight narrow spaces.

    Extension Wand: Use with desired attachments fora longer reach.

    NOTE: When using the hose for above floorcleaning, make sure the powerfoot does nottilt forward.

    Power cord

    When you are done using your BISSELLPowerForce, return it to the upright position andstore the power cord.

    1. Turn vacuum cleaner OFF.

    2. Unplug power cord by grasping the polarizedplug (NOT the cord) and disconnect from outlet.

    3. Loop power cord around cord wraps on sideof vacuum cleaner.

    4. Clip molded plug to power cord to secure.

    To maintain maximum performance from yourBISSELL PowerForce, perform these simplemaintenance checks.

    Bag change indicator (select models)

    Select BISSELL PowerForce models are equippedwith a bag change indicator. This indicator monitorsthe airflow through the dust bag and turns red toindicate a reduction or blockage. The followingconditions may cause it to become completely red.

    1. Dust bag is full; change the bag.

    2. Dust bag is clogged with fine materials;change the bag.

    3. Clog in the vacuum; clear the clog.

    Operation

    WARNING:To reduce the risk of electricshock, turn power switch OFFand disconnect polarized plugfrom electrical outlet beforeperforming maintenance ortroubleshooting checks.

    Tip:Your BISSELL PowerForce features

    a Quick Release Cord Wrap. Toremove the power cord quickly andeasily, rotate the upper cord wraptoward floor, and slip power cord fromupper and lower cord wrap.

    Tip:Vacuuming new carpet or fine powdersmay clog the dust bag causing thebag change indicator to turn red eventhough the dust bag does not appearto be fill. Change the dust bag torestore maximum performance.

    Replace dust bag

    Never reuse a dust bag.Use only BISSELL Style 7 Dust Bags in your BISSELL PowerForce.Style 7 EnviroFresh Micro Filtration Dust Bags (# 30861)Style 7 Dust Bags (# 32120).

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. Pull the bag door outward to open. Set bag door aside.

    3. Grasp dust bag collar, and pull collar from connectortube. Discard used dust bag.

    4. Grasp new dust bag collar and push firmly ontoconnector tube. Tuck in dust bag.

    5. Replace bag door by placing tab on bottom of door into opening

    as shown. Press top of door to snap securely shut.NOTE: Vacuum will not suction while the bagdoor is removed.

    Cleaning pre-motor & post-motor filters

    Use only BISSELL Replacement Filters in yourBISSELL PowerForce.

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. The pre-motor filter, located in the bottom of the bagcompartment, protects the motor from dirt particles. Iffilter becomes dirty, lift out filter and clean.

    3. The post-motor filter assists in the filtration process toreturn clean air to the room. To remove this filter, openthe door on the side of the cleaner. Grasp filter and pull

    it straight out.

    4. The filters may be hand washed in cold water withmild detergent, then air dried.

    5. Reposition filters when completely dry.

    Check rotating floor brush and drive belt

    You should check your vacuum cleaners rotating floorbrush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. Youshould also clean the brush and brush ends of string, hair, and carpetfibers. These can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability toeffectively clean your carpet.Also remove any debris that hasaccumulated under the brush cover.

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. Place handle in low position and turn vacuum cleanerover so bottom side is up.

    3. Remove the four screws as shown with a Phillips headscrewdriver. Lift the brush cover off.

    4. Grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift.

    5. Clean strings, hair and other debris fromrotating floor brush, paying particularattention to brush ends.

    6. Clean strings, hair and other debris from motorpulley and drive belt areas.

    7. Check drive belt carefully for wear, cuts orstressed areas. Replace if worn.

    8. Check air passageway for obstructions.Remove debris from this area.

    Replace drive belt

    Use only BISSELL Style 7 Replacement Belts(#32074) in your BISSELL PowerForce.

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. With rotating floor brush removed from vacuumcleaner (Steps 1-4 of Check rotating floor brushand drive belt), grasp old drive belt and removefrom motor pulley. Discard old drive belt.

    3. Place new drive belt over motor pulley andstretch other end over rotating floor brush inthe space between the bristles.

    4. Place ends of rotating floor brush down intoslots on sides as shown.

    5. Turn rotating floor brush by hand severaltimes in direction of motor pulley. If properly

    installed, drive belt will center itself.6. Reposition brush cover and four screws.

    Tighten screws securely. Make sure end ofbrush cover is snapped into place.

    Replace light bulb (select models)

    Select models are equipped with a headlight.Use only BISSELL Replacement Bulbs in yourBISSELL PowerForce.

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. Using a flat screwdriver, table knife or coin,insert into the slot on the right of the lensand gently push inner latch to the left asshown to remove the lens.

    3.Remove the bulb from the socket by graspingbulb and pulling straight out. Install the new bulbby pushing it gently into the socket until the bulbsnaps into place

    4. Reposition lens, by inserting tab on leftside and then pushing the right side backinto place.

    Clearing clog

    The Hose on the back of the vacuum cleanerthat carries the dirt from the powerfoot to thedust bag can sometimes become clogged. Ifyou notice a change in the sound of the vacuummotor, check for clogs.

    1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.

    2. Pull the bag door outward to open and setaside. Remove the dust bag to check thesuction Inlet for a clog.

    3. Grasp the quick reach handle and lift up toseparate from the suction intake opening.

    Check for a clog in the base, the wand or thehose.

    4. Release the hose from the vacuum byturning to the right. Straighten the hose andunclog with a long, narrow object.

    5. If the clog persists, turn the vacuum cleanerOFF and unplug it. Remove the brush cover.Check the air passageway for obstructions.Remove debris from this area. Repositionbrush cover and four screws. Tighten screwssecurely. Make sure end of brush cover issnapped into place.
