Mechanicsville Baptist Church 40th Anniversary

Thank You… “Dear Friends, Words cannot adequately express my appreciation for a very special retire-ment weekend. The reception was perfect in every way. A huge thank you to all who worked so hard to put together such a wonderful party. I enjoyed the delicious food the beautiful decorations and flowers, the music and the opportunity to visit with so many friends and family. As an organist, I can say you “pulled out all of the stops”. I am truly humbled by your most generous love gift and the bronze plaque for the music suite. I thank you for the many cards, gifts, hugs and well-wishes. My appreciation to all of the musicians who so beautifully shared during our time of worship on Sunday. Thank you for your faithfulness and love. I feel honored to have served as your Minister of Music for 40 years. I look forward to being with you in October for Mechanicsville Baptist Church’s anniver-sary celebration. My prayers will be with you during these months of transition and change. You will always remain my family in Christ.” In His Love, Brenda

From the Pastor… Archibald Rutledge tells the story that as a young boy he was always catching and cag-ing wild tings. He particularly loved the sound of the mockingbird, so he decided to catch one and keep it so he could hear it sing any time. He found a very young mockingbird and placed it in a cage outside his home. On the second day he saw a mother bird fly to the cage and feed the young bird through the bars. This pleased young Archibald. But then the following morning he found the little bird was dead. Later young Arch was talking to the re-nowned ornithologist Arthur Wayne, who told him, “A mother mockingbird, finding her young in a cage, will sometimes take it poisonous berries. She evidently thinks it better for one she loves to die rather than live in captivity.” As we celebrate Independence Day this week, freedom is on our minds. We are reminded on the Fourth of July of the great price paid for our freedom. Our Founding Fathers were willing to put their fortunes and their very lives on the line in order to be free. Our Lord and Savior willingly gave His life so that we could be free from the bondage and penalty of sin. When we celebrate freedom we should be mindful every day of the great price of our physical as well as our spiritual freedom. Pastor Tim

Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive pow-

er when the Holy Spirit has come up-on you; and you shall be witnesses

to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and the end of the

earth”.
