Sunday, 5/21, the FPC Session held acongregational meeting to vote on theDissolution of the Pastoral Relationshipwith Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Gary Kelly. The Presbyterian Book of Order states: "An installed pastoral relationship may

be dissolved only by the presbytery. Whether theteaching elder, the congregation, or the presbyteryinitiates proceedings for dissolution of the relationship, there shall always be a meeting of the congregation toconsider the matter and to consent, or decline toconsent, to dissolution." (G-2.09)

The motion passed. Sunday, 5/28, will be Gary'slast Sunday as the Sr. Pastor of First PresbyterianChurch Morristown. As we celebrate the service andministry of Gary and Martha Kelly during their timehere, we are understandably anxious about what thefuture holds. Remember, God is in control and has aplan. I want to take the remainder of my space to letyou know about the basic procedure and some keywords you may hear during this journey.

Terms defined: PC(USA): the Presbyterian denomination to which

FPC belongsHolston Presbytery: grouping of 63 PCUSA

churches in northeast TNExecutive Presbyter: Rich Fifield, like the Pastor of

Holston Presbytery Session: FPC governing body, currently 20 FPC

membersPulpit Supply: person to fill pastoral duties on

short-term basis 1-4 SundaysInterim Pastor: person to fulfill pastoral duties on

midrange basis 6-12 monthsFPC Nominating Committee: tasked with

nominating Elders for Session annually and PNC whennecessary.

Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC): nominatedmembers of FPC who complete process to nominatenew pastor

Committee on Ministry (CoM): PresbyteryCommittee that provides oversight in pastoral searchprocess

Church Information Form (CIF): Basically aresume for the church

Personal Information Form (PIF): Basically aresume for pastors

On Sunday May 7th, Rich Fifield, our ExecutivePresbyter, and Diana Moore, Chair of the CoM, metwith members of the FPC Session to discuss theprocess for a Pastoral Transition. Presbyterians dothings in a decent and orderly manner. We have an

established process that we will adhere to in order tofind the best possible pastor for the ministry and needsof our church.

The FPC Worship Committee, chaired by JohnAtkins, was tasked with finding Pulpit Supply forJune-September. The FPC Human ResourceCommittee, chaired by Paul McAnear, was tasked withfinding an Interim Pastor to serve for up to twelvemonths while the PNC searches for a permanent(installed) pastor. The Interim Pastor SearchCommittee includes: Paul McAnear (chair), Susan Sams(co-chair), John Atkins, Casey Smith, Bonnie Michaud,Jerry Tucker, and Bill Vest. These committees arealready moving forward with their respective tasks.

In the coming months the FPC NominatingCommittee will get together to nominate a slate of FPCmembers to serve on the PNC. These nominees willthen be voted on (approved) by the congregation at acongregational meeting. The PNC will be tasked withcompleting a mission study of FPC, basically a reporton the current status of our church, includingministries, membership, staff, etc. The PNC will usethe findings from the mission study to complete theCIF. This document will serve as prospective pastorsfirst glimpse of FPC. It is included in a nationaldatabase that allows searching pastors to find whatministry positions are available. Similarly, Pastor's PIFsare included in this database which allows the PNC tosearch/read about possible candidates. Phoneinterviews, on-site interviews, etc. will take place. Typically the PNC like to hear/see the prospectivecandidate(s) in person as the process gets close tonominating one. The PNC then nominates a pastor forapproval by the congregation and (Holston) Presbytery.

This article is an oversimplification of the processbut has hopefully served to calm your fears. FPC has aplan and will routinely pray that God's will be donethroughout our church and our lives. I welcome anyquestions or concerns. May God be glorified in thisprocess and in our lives.

Summer Fun!!!Summer is here and that means FUN!!!!Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

- Philippians 4:4

Time just to rest and relax!!And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we

will reap, if we do not give up.-Galatians 6:9

Forget about the cares of the world!!But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need,

yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide inhim? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed

and in truth.- 1 John 3:17-18

Freedom!!For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your

freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve oneanother.

- Galatians 5:13-14

Live the good life!!For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Philippians 1:21

Parties and friends!"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see youhungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needingclothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prisonand go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you,

whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sistersof mine, you did for me.'- Matthew 25:37 - 40

Cookouts, clambakes, bar-b-cues - lots of greatfood!

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinkingbut of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

-Romans 14:17

What more could you ask for?As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good

stewards of God's varied grace: - 1 Peter 4:10
