    SPECIAL FEATURES

    Tef lon

is a registered tradema rk of E.I. Dupont de Nemours Co.,Inc.

Series 2500 valves are 2-way, globe-type, piston valves. They a re operated by an external lever co nnecting the liftingac tion o f the linea r ac tuator to the va lve piston/plug througha rota ry shaft. The Rota ry Sha ft principle c rea tes a mec han-ical advantage enabling more force in operating the valve. Italso allow s stronger return spring ac tion to ensure reliab le,fail-sa fe return.

Isolated actuator: In the Rotary Shaft valve, the fluid iscontained in the lower valve body assembly, completelyaw ay from the e lectrica l portion of the valve. Therefore, there is no possibility of explosive gas or corrosive liquidlea king into the electrica l enclosure, as there is in a nypackless type solenoid valve.

High temperature capability: Because the magneticplunger and the so lenoid are mounted outside and aw ayfrom the va lve b od y, up to 425 F fluid temperature, including steam, can be safely handled without coil

insulation breakdown which is often associated withpackless type solenoid valves.

Quick acting, two position: S peed of operation is less thanone second and is independent of line-media conditions.

Manual operation provision: In case o f an emergency o r

for trial operation, the valve may be operated by hand usingthe external lever.

Visual position indication: The exte rnal lever a lso s ervesas a visual po sition indicator.

Corrosion resistant materials: All internal parts are madefrom 316 stainless steel.

Highpressurecapability:The mecha nica l ad vantag eprovided by the external lever of the rotary sha ft type ena blesthe valve to be fitted w ith a much s tronger c losure spring tha nis possible with any direct lift packless type solenoid valve. This a llow s a much higher ope ning p res sure and /or a g rea terfactor of s afety for opening a nd c losing the valve.

Much longer maintenance-free life: The s lig ht a rc (15-

    30) of the rotary sha ft offers superior sea l life expec tanc ycompared to reciprocating-stem packing glands.

Dependable shutoff: P ressure and flow (ab ove the sea t)tending to close the va lve a chieves s hutoff reliab ility notpossible with ball, gate, or butterfly type valves.

Zero pressure operation: Valve is no t de pende nt onpress ure o r flow to o pen o r close fully.

No tinyorifices: These valves contain no dia phra g ms ,needle-sized orifices or piston rings typical of packlesst ype s o lenoid va lves w hich a re prone t o c logg ing.

Heavywalled valve bodies: All valves have heavy wa lledca st b odies w hich meet the ANSI ratings of class 150 &300 for steel.

A Doubled Seal System: Ensures an absolute minimum offugitive emiss ions. The prima ry s ea l is Teflon

with a springload ed, s econda ry s eal (see drawing below).

    2500 SERIES VALVE

    PISTON OPTIONS

OPTION D - Direct Operated for Low Pressures

This series ca n be used for visc ous or dirty fluids as well a s

    light liq uids and ga ses . These a re Direct Operated valves;

referring to the inner valve c ons truction w here t he full area valve

disc is lifted off the seat against the full inlet shutoff pressure.

This is d one w ithout the a id o f a p res sure as sist from the med ia

or b y a n interna l pilot or minimum flow req uirement. These

    valves open a nd c los e, q uickly a nd fully, d ow n to z ero ps i.

Closing speed is essentially independent of fluid viscosity, line

press ure or pressure d rop a cross valve.

OPTION P - Pilot Operated for Clean Gases or Light Liquids

Use this series for light liquids (less than 200 SSU) and clean

ga ses in higher press ure a pplica tions than the D series.

Thes e a re S emi Direct Opera ted va lves. The a ctua tor lifts the

first stage port relieving the static line pressure on top of the

ma in pisto n. This relief crea tes a press ure imba la nce due to

inlet and outlet area size differences which assist in lifting the

pisto n off the s ea t, o pening the va lve fully. The first sta ge is

co nnecte d to the pisto n w ith a n a uxilia ry spring. Therefore, it is

ess entially the a ctuato r that provides a lifting a ction and not the

press ure imbalance. C onseq uently, there is no d ependence on

press ure or flow to op erate the va lve. This a llow s the va lve to

ac t a s Direct Operated dow n to zero psi compared to that ofmost pilot o pera ted or dia phra gm valves with needle s ized

orifices. Moreover, this allows the valve operation to be positive

    and quick.

    OPTION S - Semi-Direct Operated for Dirty/Viscous Liquids

Use this series for viscous or dirty liquids in higher pressure

a pplica tions than the D s eries . These a re S emi Direct

Operated valves. The a ctua tor lifts the full area disc off the

seat with the assistance of the pressure of the media. Because

the piston is c onnected to the ac tuator and not f loa ting, the

valve operation is pos itive a nd q uick. This a lso a llow s the va lve

to a ct a s Direct Operated a t low press ures d own to zero

psig. Visc ous or unclea n liq uids ca n b e ha ndled relia bly

because the first stage valve port is 25 to 50% of the main

port diameter; as compared to needle sized orifices of most

    pilot operated valves.

Note: This opt ion is for use w ith liq uids only.

    2500 SERIES ACTUATORS

    SOLI-CONSOLENOID ACTUATORS

    The S oli-Co n solenoid ac tuator is a solid-sta te-

co ntrolled electric a ctua tor, w hich effectively

    eliminates coil burn-out due to mechanical overload.The s olid-sta te-controller a cts a s both a timer a nd

electrica l signa l co nditioner. Upon ene rgizing

(applying an electrical signal), the timing circuit

de livers a n inrush current s pike to the c oil to pull-

in the plunger (armature) and operate the valve.

After approxima tely a half sec ond (~ 500 ms), the

circuit drops the current to the coil to a small fraction

of an amp holding the plunger magnetically in its

new position. Actual c urrent d epends upon voltag e

a nd a ctuato r size (model); s ee ta ble below. The

conditioning circuit regulates the voltage and current

delivered to the coil allowing for greater voltagerang es a nd eliminat ing AC hum a nd c hatt er. This

low ers t he c oil tempera ture rise , resulting in longer

coil life, while also saving energy and maintenance

cos ts. Add itionally, should the valve b e operated in

exces s press ure o r blocked, the co il will not b e

    ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTSSolid-State-Controlled Actuators

    1. For solenoid a ctuators, models SC G and S CH are used on 12 - 112 valves, and models S CB

and S CE are used on 2" - 4" valves. For electromagnet ac tuators, models SCG and S CH

are used on all valve sizes.

    2. Inrush a mps do not a pply for manual reset - no voltage releas e va lve type.

    3. Maximum cy cles p er minute (on/off) rated with a valve ha ving a fluid te mperature of 425F.

    SOLI-CONELECTROMAGNET

    ACTUATORS

    The S oli-Con electromag net a ctua tor is a solid-sta te-

controlled electric actuator, which holds the plunger inthe latc hed po sition. The solid-sta te-controller a cts

as electrical signal conditioner. Upon energizing

    (a pplying a n e lec trica l signa l), the circuit only a llow s

holding current to the coil, disabling

the inrush current d raw a nd pull-in event. This

a ctuato r is used on the Manual Rese t No Voltag e

Release (NV) valve type. In all other aspects, it is

the same as the solenoid a ctuators.

NOTE: All S oli-Con a ctua tors fea ture c ontinuousduty operation, Cla ss H co ils, function up to ama ximum a mbient tem perature of 185F (85C ), a ndco nta in a 1/2 FNP T co nduit co nnection.

FULLY AUTOMATIC (FA)This fully electric valve a utoma tica lly cha nges its

position ba sed on electrica l signa l. When the S oli-

Con solenoid a ctua tor is de-energized (on loss of

electrical signal), the valve will fail to its normal orfail-sa fe pos ition. Upon a pplying or res toring the

electrical signal, the solenoid actuator will

automa tica lly energize and cha nge the va lve pos ition.

FM SAFETY SHUT-OFF (FM)This version o f the fully elec tric va lve is FM a pproved

for safety s hut-off of fuel oils a nd g a ses . The valve

fea tures a n explos ion proof S oli-Con so lenoid

actuator and is only supplied in the normally closed

    fail-sa fe pos ition.

MANUAL RESET ELECTRICALLY TRIPPED (ET)This manua l reset valve mus t b e ma nually a ctuated

to move from its normal or fail-safe position to its

latched position. When the Soli-Con so lenoid

actuator is in the de-energized state (no electrical

signal), the valve is held mechanically in its latched

    position. Upon a pplying a n electrica l signa l

(energizing), the so lenoid a ctua tor w ill trip the va lve

to revert bac k to its normal pos ition. Momenta ry

energizing is all that is required to trip this valve.

    2500 SERIES VALVE TYPES

MANUAL RESET NO VOLTAGE RELEASE (NV)

This ma nual reset valve must be manua lly a ctua ted

to move from its normal or fail-safe position to its

latched po sition. When the So li-Conelectromag net a ctuator is e nergized (with an

electrica l signal), the va lve is held ma gnetica lly in its

latched po sition. Upon de-energizing (loss of

electrical signal), the electromagnet actuator will

relea se the valve to revert ba ck to its norma l

position. S ince the electromag net ac tuator is used

for holding only, it a voids the higher inrush current

of the s olenoid a ctuator.

    DIMENSIONS

All above dimensions a nd w eights are a pproximate for

    estimating purposes only.

Sta ndard flanges are drilled per ANSI B16.5 or

    B16.24

Install valve with actuato r in upright position in a

    horizontal pipeline.

Valve bodies can be rotated 90 to four positions to

facilitate mounting for direction of flow. Specify with

order if body orientation is to be different than

    st a n d a rd sh ow n a b ov e.

Consult factory for vertical pipe mounting

dimensions. S pecify whether flow is upw ard ord ow n w a rd .

The actuator may be rotated 90 to for positions to

vary the location of the conduit connection. Allow

add itional headroom to remove a ctuator.

If available headroom is limited, valve can be

furnished with valve b ody inverted: add Z to s uffix

on pa ge 3 and s pecify flow direction desired.

FIRE-CIDE SERIES - HEAT ACTUATED SHUTOFF VALVE

    ALL VALVES FA CTO RY M UTUA L S Y S TE M AP P ROVED FOR EMERGENCY S HUT-OFF

    ROTARY SHAFT DESIGN

FIRE-CIDE series valves are globe-type valves, operated

by a ma nual external lever. Lifting a ction is trans mitted from

the lever directly to the valve stem and piston through the

rotary shaft. This me cha nica l advanta ge allow s the va lve

compared to direct lift or direct acting valves. Closing

spee d, for fail closed valves, is not significa ntly a ffected by

fluid viscosity, line pressure or pressure drop across valve.

The slight arc of m otion (15-30) of the valve rotary sha ft

provides much longe r maintenance-free life o f the rotary

shaft seal compared to reciprocating-stem packing glands.
