Your College Career

How much do you really know about the U S Armed Forces Institute Do you fully realize what it is what it does and how much it can help you

The USAF is a world-wide educational system for men and women in uniform It stands ready to help the service man and woman round out his pre-service education it will enable a soldier or sailor to embark after the war on an enshytirely new career fortified with knowledge and skill gained through the Institutes courses

Not only can a serviceman in his spare time increase his value to the military service but he can continue a highshyschool or college career interrupted by the war or even start his high school or college education He can obtain instrucshytion in business scientific technical mechanical industrial liberal arts and engineering fields-anything from accountshying and aviation to trigonometry and welding

Many servicemen already have definite plans to resume their interrupted education after the war but they need not delay until that vague and possibly distant day to gain new skill and knowledge For an extremely low fee they can take courses now through USAF which will keep study habits keen and perception fresh for the day demobilishyzation permits them to return to school

Any serviceman anxious to continue his education is missing the boat if he fails to take advantage of the Instishytutes amazingly wide curriculum The Education office in the Administration Building Annex has full information on USAFI entry blanks and instructions

CHAPLAINS CORNER

Going My Way

By Chaplain William J Walsh

Almost all who have seen that very popular movie Going My Way praised it highly Everyone had his own reason for liking the picture There was the sailor from Brooklyn who was captivated by the scene where the gang stole the turkeys and one of them made a gift to the old pastor with the words Fodder I got a toikey for you Others of course like the picture for more sound reasons But a very unusual one was given by a sailor not long ago

To him Going My Way brought back memories - memoshyries of a shipmate and a turbulent sea Sailor Jack was fed up with the Navy He figured he had gone through enough Jack was in the Navy for nearly two years and haJ no leave He had taken all the guff he could stand from the gold braid He was fed up with Navy chow swabbing and discipline J ack would do something about it His shipmates were a good bunch of fellows but they did not unshyderstand him He would not listen to them - Jack decided to go his way He would jump ship The last time Jack was seen was on the deck one evening when he told this sailor Im going my way

There are times when everyone of us does get a bit fed up with people and places times when I feel I must go my way no matter what the cost It is something natural Having ones own way begins in babyhood days when the child is seen to grasp everything within reach for itself Unless propshyerly trained this tendency can lead to disastrous results Perhaps that is why so many men find the discishypline of the Navy hard to take All of us want to have My Way

Centuries ago the Son of God came to men that He might leaa men back to God He summarized His message to the world in the words I am the Way the Truth and the Life In times like these and in our way of living there is an urgent need for everyone to know His Way The unusual conshyditions which war brings into the lives of everyone can very readily lead us from the Way of Truth and Life to the way of despair and destruction Today a Divine Leader asks us the question Going My Way
