FRANKLIN SCHOOL
JUNIOR HIGH BUILDING ELEMENTARY BUILDING
HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING
FOREWORD "Time changes all things"
In a few hours, fire took away our old elementary building on February 6, 1957. In a few months, good planning and skilled
hands provided a new 13 room building. With the hardships and heartaches of the spring of 1957 came a feeling of close unity
between teachers, parents, children and indeed, of the community. A new Franklin carries on in cooperative progress.

... Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is
its current...
Our theme of "TIME " wi 11 help to portray some of the
passing events that have occurred this year. We have fried
to select those happenings which have been most signifi¬
cant in our school year. When the book is closed, the
current of the river of events will have flowed over the
rocks of time into a new year.

Progress in a school is in direct relation to the type
of leadership available. Surry County is most fortunate
in having as Superintendent of schools, a man of vision
with faith in his fellow man: J. Sam Gentry.
Clinton W. Moseley, a member of Surry County Board
of Fducation, has faithfully carried out his duties in pro¬
moting the best interest of school children in the county.
HIGH SCHOOL
...A time like this demands strong minds,
great hearts, true faith, and ready hand...
From good teachers we received much more
than instruction. Guidance and love and a
helping hand from these, our teachers,
help us as students, to develop into better
men and women.

The people who serve so faithfully deserve our thanks and
commendation. Without them our school days would not
be so pleasant.
.. .With tears and laughter for all time...
P. T. A. OFFICERS Left to Right: Mrs. T. H. Houck, Treasurer; Mrs. Vernon Laughridge, Vice President; Gerald Collins, President;

A community can have the kind of school it desires. Our Parent-Teacher Association strongly supports all efforts
to improve and expand our school.
A school is as strong as those
whoserve it. The loyalty and
faithful service of these peo¬
ple is to be commended.

This float was decorated and shown in the Greater Mount Airy Mer¬
chants Parade on December 5, 1957. The theme of "Pulling Together"
for the youth of the Community was demonstrated by the number of peo¬
ple and groups who helped to decorate it. Students representing youth
organizations are shown.

And now we are nearing the end of our school day. With the stri —
kingofthe clock and the sound of the school bell, this day in our lives
will become time of the past.
The passing of time will see changes in our high school. Before the
end of 1 959^ a new union school will be in use. Cherishing the past,
but anticipating a new and greater school in our community, we press
on with faith in the future.
