This belt failure guide is designed to assist in inspecting failed belts and understanding the possible cause of the belt failure.

By having an understanding of the cause and effect relationship of belt failures, ensures an accurate and time effective repair.

1. Checkbladesforcorrectbalancingandpartnumber.

2. Alldeckpulleyscheckedforwearorinconsistencies.

3. Alldeckpulleysareonthesameplane.

4. Idlersshouldbecheckedforangleoroutofplane.

5. Idler arm should be free to rotate and maintain belt tension.

6. Makesurethebeltinstallediscorrectlength,partnumber,andconstructionand has no damage.

7. No objects should touch belt other than pulleys and idlers.

8. Checkdeckforproperadjustment.Height,sidetoside,fronttoback.

9. Belt tension springs for damage or defect.

10. Spinspindlesslowlyandlookforbentshaftsandpulleys.

tESt ProCEDurE WitH MACHinE runninG AnD oPErAtor PoSitionED in SEAt

1. Runatfullthrottle,bladesnotrunning,noticeifthereisexcessivevibrationfromengine.

2. At¾throttleengageblades,watchforextremebeltmovement.Repeatthisat½throttleand full throttle. (Some movement is normal.)

3. Withbladesrunningnotethevibration,(thisshouldbecheckedasthethrottleismovedslowlyfrom½tofull.)Heavyvibrationmayrequirethatyoutryanotherbeltorrecheckpulleys and spindles
