It is my honor to invite everyone to our annual Past President's Appreciation event for our December meeting. This isa lunch event in Denver only, where we strive to show our appreciation every year to those who have previously leadour chapter and still offer great advice to the current Board of Governors. As I look at the list of past presidents, I amhumbled by the leadership that each person has contributed to our chapter and industry. I hope to see you there!

At our December lunch meeting, the program will be a presentation/panel discussion on "Legal Risks for Engineers"by Mike Ossian from Project One, Byrum Lee from Lee & Associates and Ron Abo from the Abo Group. Mike hasover 40 years experience in the campus planning, design and construction administration within the healthcare andhigher education industries. Byrum is a lawyer in the Denver area who specializes in engineering cases. Ron is aboard member of the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional LandSurveyors.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN ASHRAE HISTORY

“Events of October 4th 1972”

In 1972 the first meeting of the year was on October 4th at the Tiffin Inn in Denver. 62 members and 16 guestsattended. At this meeting, the “Thunder Mug” trophy was presented to Mr. Mike Scofield. This trophy was presentedfor the football victory of the Sales Engineers over Consulting Engineers and Contractors. This game offootball/rugby was held on September 24, 1972 at the Washington Park Football Field. In order to play in the game, players were required to fill out a short application and return it to Mike Scofield along with 6 Wheaties Boxtops. Thesales engineers grudgingly elected to allow the Consulting Engineers and Contractors to use oxygen at their benchprovided that they will not concede the game before the end of the first half. As a spokesman for the sales engineersput it, “We have to make some concessions in respect for their advanced age and physical condition.”

ASHRAE Jobs Website Tool:We thought you and your fellow members would like to know about this valuable tool for ASHRAE Members andHVAC&R hiring authorities. We have prepared a page detailing the story of ASHRAEjobs.com and its success here.

The Career Center offers several benefits for hiring authorities and job seekers:

ASHRAE Jobs is user friendly. Its products and services equal the offerings from traditional big box boards suchas Monster.com, yet its information and postings are specific to the ASHRAE Community.

Due to its focus on HVAC&R engineering, Job seekers have a more effective search experience. Employers alsohave immediate access to a pre-filtered pool of talent for skills and experience.

A unique feature is ASHRAE members are highlighted in search results. The online job application and resumeforms require applicants to identify themselves by membership status. Employers can sort applications andresumes by membership status.

I would invite your Chapter to participate in this program by creating a link on your website to the ASHRAE Jobs CareerCenter. You will find attached a copy of the logo to use on your homepage. We would also appreciate your help tospread the news about ASHRAE Jobs’ success through an announcement through your eNewsletter, blogs, etc.

If you have questions, I or John von Harz (Services Manager at [email protected]) will be pleased to answerthem.
