Found Genres Reflection Letter
Dear Mr. Arnold,
When choosing a brand of genre to create, I felt compelled to test my abilities at forming a well-
rounded job resume. I felt that I should create a job resume because I have high aspirations of joining the
work force as a part-time worker during the summer. I hope to become employed in the customer
relations department of IKEA, but seeing as I have no formal, paid work experience, I would be put at a
severe disadvantage when competing with other job seekers. Therefore, it is imperative that I be able to
construct a well-made resume that convinces the superiors at IKEA why I may be an essential asset to
their company. Despite having no formal work experience, the process of creating the resume seemed to
move to a certain rhythm for me. For example, when I was called upon to discuss my desirable skills and
abilities, I immediately recalled the persistence and reputation I had earned from volunteering at the
Guilford County Animal Shelter. From this, I was able to build a fairly thorough report on work
experience, as well. I had to find a way to overcome the obstacle of having no work experience and call
upon other reputable times where I displayed diligence and efficiency in a work-type atmosphere.
Following the completion of the first draft of my resume, I received very insightful reviews from my
peers. However, I also experienced difficulties when communicating my credentials in education. For
example, being a freshman at UNC Charlotte without the completion of any credit hours, the only prior
education I have received is that of Trinity High School. I eventually concluded that my accomplishments
during high school were not worth including in the resume, as many people have obtained a high school
diploma and the inclusion of high school graduation to my young list of education credentials would not

help me to stand out from the rest of the applicants. My peers suggested that I focus on the specific skills
that I have to offer IKEA. One peer suggested that I revise my tone at certain points, which seemed to
unnecessarily deviate from a slightly personal tone to a more business and professional tone. Thus, when
constructing my final draft, I centered most of my focus on describing the value and origin of my skills,
giving a brief report on the organizations I have represented, and implementing a more professional and
objective tone. I feel that I did a very good job at providing desirable characteristics without attaining any
formal work experience. During the writing process of the Found Genres Writing Assignment, I adopted
several new skills that will act in my advantage later in life. I strengthened my ability to represent and
defend an argument or idea through professional writing. This advancement primarily expresses an
expansion of horizons through writing dexterity. Attaining a strength in professional writing will greatly
benefit me when writing nearly all of my papers throughout my collegiate career. Prior to completing the
Found Genres Assignment, I had no experience with completing job resumes or work-related documents
of any kind for that matter. I feel that, especially when the day comes that I put forth my college
education towards the job that I hope to attain for the majority of my career, I am certainly more prepared
to submit an appropriate and professional resume. That being said, probably the most important, yet
obvious, skill that I adopted through this assignment was the ability to efficiently complete a thorough job
resume. This is a crucial trait as it will be key to opening the door to job opportunities. I feel that the work
put forth towards the Found Genres Assignment has definitely paid off through the enhancement of my
confidence as a writer and will continue to pay off as I apply for a position in customer relations at IKEA
and other jobs throughout the entirety of my career.
Sincerely,
Will Misenheimer
