July 26 to September 2, 2021 SUMMER II 2020/21 COURSE SYNOPSES ADVANCED MICROSOFT OFFICE APPLICATIONS The Microsoft Office Applications program is to develop your proficiency in using Microsoft Office software and the Internet for performing regular duties in the workplace or for personal use. Students pursuing this course should at least have completed the Computer Literacy course or a similar course that includes basic word processing, spreadsheet skills as well as some knowledge of Windows 98, ME, NT4 or Windows 2000 /XP or similar operating system. ART, DRAWING & PAINTING The course in Art, Drawing and Painting teaches students various textures and designs that a painting constitutes. Students with a keen interest in the form of art and painting are best suited for this course. This course teaches participants to draw and paint the art they are inspired to make. Students will also make connections between their own work and the work of other artists and designers. Students will be taught to use their new skills, knowledge and understanding more independently to express their own ideas and feelings.

BASIC COMPUTERLITERACY

In the modern world, regardless of thecareer path that you take, some aspect ofcomputing is increasingly likely to play arole in your work. The course in BasicComputers will introduce participants to anunderstanding of computing tools,techniques and practises across a range ofapplication areas. This course will also allowparticipants to develop an understanding ofthe analysis, design, development, testing,and evaluation of computing systems.

INTRODUCTION TOPUBLIC RELATIONS

Managing Public Relations Communicationsrequires an examination of the role ofreputation management throughcommunication and relationshiptransformation to respond to shifting mediaboundaries. Participants gain practicalexperience in developing tactical and crisiscommunications plans, enhancing theirwriting skills for a diverse audience, anddesigning a communications idea brief.

This course will expose participants tocurrent principles and concepts ofleadership. The participants will be ledthrough a process of self-analysis andexamination of their own leadership stylesand the leadership roles that they play intheir various positions. The participants willalso examine the unique role that leadersplay in developing and managing effectiveteams in the modern organization.

MARKET RESEARCH ANDMANAGEMENT

The course in Market Research andManagement is specially designed for thosewho wish to upgrade their knowledge andskills in market research and management inmarketing. This course aims to providestudents with a managerial orientationtowards marketing. It also covers all relevanttopics that an informed marketingprofessional needs to know, as well asproviding insights to issues faced instrategic, tactical and administrativemarketing. The incorporation of marketingresearch in this course examines theresearch process, sampling, data collectionand data analysis in marketing. This coursewill also highlights the importance offinancial management and its application tomarketing management. Various conceptssuch as the interpretation of financialstatements, the assessment of financialperformance, the concept of leverage, andsales forecasting will be highlighted as theyform key components within this course.

The workplace role of the OfficeAdministrative Professional is to support themanagement of an organization by carryingout three key and interdependent functions:organizing, processing information, andcommunicating. This course will introduceparticipants to the fundamentals of the fieldof the administrative professional. Studentslearn office procedures such as filing,handling mail, and preparing budgets.Students also learn stress managementstrategies and the importance of workplaceethics and effective communication indiverse environments. This course exploreschanges and challenges in the 21st centuryworkplace and the role of the administrativeprofessional within that setting.

RECORDSMANAGEMENT

This programme presents the evolution ofthe recordkeeping profession, as well as thedevelopment of theories around theidentification, control, security andmanagement of recorded information. Itprovides the information necessary for afirm foundation in the legal and operationalcomponents of effective recordsmanagement.

In many instances, performance issues inorganizations are not managed early enoughand are left to fester and have largelynegative impacts. However, strategicmethods can be implemented inperformance management that will prove tobe much more effective and will save timeand resources. This Workshop focuses onthe systematic process by which anorganization involves its employees toimprove organizational effectiveness in theaccomplishment of its mission and goals.Participants will learn how to plan, execute,assess and review performance by adoptinga proactive approach.
