Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Uyama is an expertise in Biomass Plastics, Porous Nanomaterials and Functional Bio-
based Polymers. He obtained his B.S. in Engineering from Kyoto University in 1985 and become a
researcher at Kao Corporation in 1987. His academic careers starting from joining Faculty of
Engineering at Tohoku University as assistant Professor in 1988 and later become a professor at
Graduate School of Engineering of Osaka University in 2014. He also become Head of Chemistry-
Biology Combined Major Program at Osaka University in 2012 until 2016. Currently, he is a visiting
professor at College of Chemistry and Materials Science of Northwest University, Kirkland,
Washington. Upon his career, he has been awarded with Mitsubishi Chemical Award, Society of
Polymer Science, Japan (2017), Encouragement Award, Japan Thermosetting Plastics Industry
Association (2016), Highest Award, Japan Bio- technology Business Competition (2008), JSBBA
Innovative Research Program Award (2005), Young Scientist Award, Chemical Society of Japan (1997),
Outstanding Paper Award, Society of Oil and Fat Industry, Japan (1996) and Outstanding Paper Award
of Polymer Journal, Society of Polymer Science, Japan (1999). With his expertise and experience, he
becameanauthorfor morethan340journals with 14 PhDand80Master students.
Prof. Dr. Luqman ChuahAbdullah
Prof. Dr. Luqman Chuah Abdullah @ Chuah Teong Guan is a professor at Department of Chemical and
Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He graduated from
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) with B.S. Chemical Engineering in 1994 and obtained his Ph.D in
Chemical Engineering on 2000 from University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Prof. Dr. Luqman Chuah
Abdullah’s research interest including Separation Technology (Adsorption, filtration, mechanical
separation, distillation, extraction etc.), Material Engineering (nanoparticles, polymers, bio- and nano-
composites, ceramics etc.), Particle Technology (drying, crystallization, fluidization, nanofluid etc.),
Environmental Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering and also Phytochemical Engineering. He has receivedseveral awards such as Malaysia Rising Star Award (2015), Top Research Scientists Malaysia (2013), Ir.
Thean Lip Thong Prize for Best Technical Paper Award (2008) and Young Engineer Award (2006). He has
become author and co-author for more than 220 journals, 11 books (including chapters in books), 12
patents and awarded with 13 research grants from MOSTI Science Funds, Putra IPS, Research UniversityGrant Scheme (RUGS), Commodities (CFC) Fund and UNIDO, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS)
andIntensification of Researchin Priority Area (IRPA).
SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Dr. Azizan Ahmad
Prof. Dr. Azizan Ahmad is fellow of Polymer Research Center (PORCE) and Fuel Cell Institute at The
National University of Malaysia (UKM). HegraduatedfromUKMwith First Class Hons.BSc in Chemistry
in 1996. He obtained his MSc (Environmental Science) from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 1999 and PhD
(Chemistry) from UKMin 2004. Hewas promotedto Associate Professor in 2011. His research interest
covers synthesis of new polymer, modification of biopolymer, polymer nanocomposite and solid
polymer electrolyte for energy storage application. He developed Polymer-Ionic Research Group at
UKM since 2006. Prof. Dr. Azizan Ahmad is the principal supervisors of more than 20 MSc and 15 PhD
students. He had published more than 70 papers in international refereed journal. He was appointed
as reviewer for more than 10 international refereed journals. He had been awarded amongthe best
researcher and lecturer from The National University of Malaysia in year 2012. He built international
research networking and collaboration with University of Trento, Italy, Politecnico di Torino & Italian
Institute of Technology, Italy, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan, Japan
Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Kanazawa, Japan, Sustainable Energy
Technologies, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, Department of Chemistry, University Mohammad
Premier, University MohammadVandCaddiAyyad University in Morocco.
Dr. Mohd Khairun Anwar Uyup
Dr Mohd Khairun Anwar Uyup is a researcher at Wood Finishing Laboratory, Forest Products Division,
Forest Research Institue Malaysia, Kepong. He graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
majoring in Forestry in 2000. He obtained his Master and PhD degrees in Wood Science and
Technology from UPM in 2003 and 2008. His research interest is focusing on wood composite,
composite and wood finishing for interior and exterior applications. He had published two books,
seven chapter in books and more than 50 papers in journal. He also had patented four of his research
projects. He was a reviewer for four Malaysia journals and more than ten International journals. He
had received various appreciations for his work such as the gold medal in the Bio- Innovation awards
andresearchInvention Innovation in 2014.
