As HSE reaches its tenth year with the theme "Survival of the Fittest," we invite high school students from public and private schools all over Metro Manila and nearby provinces to a battle where true skills are tested, Aside from the usual quiz bee, the contenders have the chance to showcase their talents through the Extemporaneous Speech Contest, and the pre-event Photo Essay Writing Competition. These two new additional features of the HSE aim to demonstrate the students' appreciation of economics, as well as to develop critical thinking and applying it in speaking and in writing. More so, these competitions aim to show the significance of economics in our daily lives. In line with this, we are seeking accreditation for our event and endorsement to these public and private high schools from your institution that we believe can help us actualize our plans. High School EcolympicsGENERAL GUIDELINES

HSE 2015 is open to all high school students in the Philippines.The registration for HSE 2015 will be from November 25, 2Ot4 until January 11, 2015only.- Early registration shall be done online by sending all the requested documents to

[email protected]. For inquiries, you may also contact Anjiellu Francisco (0906708017)- Each participating school is required to send participants for all categories. The

number of contestants per category is as follows:photo Essay Contest - 1 parucipant per schoolExtemporaneous Speech Competition - 1 participant per school (thisparticipant may come from the students participating in the quiz bee)

Quiz Bee - 6 students per school (3 membeE per team, maximum of 2 teamsper school)

- Schools should also send only one (1) coach/trainer for their school.- A registration fee worth P5O0 will be asked from all schools.

Payments shall be deposited to the Business Economics Association's bank account (accountname: BUSINESS ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION BEA, account number: SA 003993-0387-75 before January 11, 2015.The dress code for HSE 2015 will be the respective uniform of each school. Students andcoaches must also conform to the dress code of the university (e.9. no slippers, skirt belowthe knee, etc.) Please see the UA&P dress code guide attached to this document.

3. Competing students must arrive at the venue fifteen (15) minutes before the contest proper.- The students and coaches are required to bring their student IDs on the day of the contest.

This must be presented at the registration table.- Proper decorum shall be observed while the contest is ongoing, as well as around the

university's premises. Participants and coaches are requested to turn off their cellular phonesor put them in silent mode. The contestants are not allowed to bring cellular phones andstudy aids during the contest proper. Contestants should come in their official schooluniform.

- Students who have been invited to watch the competition must stay in one area, and mustnot loiter. There will be a schedule for coaches and students to have a tour around theschool.

CONTEST 6UIDELINES

REQUIREMENT1. one high school will be allowed to send at least one (1) up to tlvo (2) teams in the quiz bee

comprising of three (3) members per team. The three members per team could be the school'srepresentatives to the other events.

2. There shall only be one coach per high school.3. The school must send replies of acknowledgement and participation consisting of the name of

the team, the name of the coach and a written statement attesting to theirenrolment/employment. Payments may also be made on or before the day of the contest.

4. On the day of the competition, the participating students are required to wear their respectiveschool uniform and bring proper identification. Any student who cannot affirm his or her identitywill not be allowed to participate.

The quiz bee shall be divided into tlvo rounds: the eliminations and the nnal battle.

The Eliminations will be conducted in the morning, and will proceed in a traditional quiz beecontest, consisting of three rounds: easy, average, and difficult.

a. Questions for the easy round are worth five (5) points; seven (7) points for the averageround; and ten (10) points for the difflcult round.

b. Each round shall have ten questions, and a wager question shall be posted at the end ofeach round.

The Wager Round will consist of a special question where the teams may either gain or losepoints by waging or placing a bet using the points they earned at the end of a particular round.

a. If the team gets the answer corredly, the amount of points waqed shall be added intheir total score, otherwise, the waged points shall be deducted from them.

b. Teams may opt not to wage their points; consequently, they will not be allowed toparticipate in the wager round.

The Final Battle. The teams who will emerge as the top ten based on the scores from theeliminations will move further to this last special round- In this round, the questions will beclassified under cateqories which pertain to selected topics in Economics.

a. There will be nine (9) categories with three (3) questions that may either be an easy,average, or difficult question - the level of difficulty of the questions shall not berevealed - with varyinq point equivalents similar to that of the eliminations.

The ten competing teams shall be provided with a buzzer for this round. The firstquestion for the Final Battle shall be selected by the Quiz Master at random. The teamwho gets the correct answer first shall be allowed to select the next category.

Any team wiil then be allowed to answer that category. The team who answers thequestion correcfly will have the chance to select the neK category and so on.

Each category has a corresponding puzzle piece that completes a specific ptcture. ,Thefirst team to be able to correctly guess the picture shall merit additional points. Only theteam who answers the last question in a particular category gets the chance to guess thepidure. If they get to correctly guess the picture, then they will merit an additional 10points ta their total score-

The team with the highest number of points at the end of the Final Battle shall bedeclared as the Champion for the 10b High School Ecolympics.

MECHANICS

. The contestant can be one of the three Quiz Bee participants.

. The contestant will randomly draw a topic that must be addressed in a three-minute speech.Topics will only be given (5) five minutes prior to the contestantt turn to deliver his speech.. Consulting with coaches after having selected a topic is not allowed.

. After the speech, each judge may opt to ask one question for the contestant. Each question mustbe designed to secure verification, clarification, or amplification only.

. Contestants are not allowed to bring any materials during the preparation time.

UA&P Dress Code Details

. Casual preferably full-length jeans and shirt.

. Important: Sleeveless shirts, shorts and skirts above the knee will not be allowed inside the campus.

. Detailed Dress Code:Clothes should fit well. Tight clothing that may show tension or underwear lines is not allowed.Clothes must cover the torso and undergarments at all times.Sleeveless outfits and low cut necklines are not appropriate.Sleeves must fully cover at least 1/3 of the upper arm.Shoulders, bacl! and knees should be fully covered at all times.Designs on clothes must not contain, explicitly or impiicitly, foul language, suggestive texts andtexts with double meanings, suggestive and vulgar graphics.Ripped, torn, and tattered clothes are not allowed.Shorts (walking shorts/ corporate shorts) are not allowed except in designated areas
