MEDIA RELEASE 13 JULY 2015
PREPARATION FOR LADIES DAY PICKS UP PACE
There’s some Summer Afternoon Racing to enjoy at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Wednesday
15 July, before the big top rolls into the market town - in the shape of Ladies Day, on Friday
24 July.
As the temperatures continue to rise, so does the profile of the award-winning racecourse on
the Staffordshire-Derbyshire borders, which already this year has enjoyed some major
highlights. Sharleen Spiteri and Texas, A.P. McCoy, Sara Cox, Channel 4 and even Peppa
Pig have all played their part at Uttoxeter Racecourse this year - along with some of the best
chasers, trainers and jockeys in the world of horse racing.
More than ‘just’ a race meeting, Ladies Day provides the theatrical backdrop for the ladies
(and gentlemen) to take to the stage, for another memorable afternoon of top fun and high
fashion.
Reflecting on her own experiences at Ladies Night at Uttoxeter earlier this summer, DJ Sara
Cox recently wrote in her Sunday Mirror column: “Uttoxeter Racecourse was blessed with
hot weather, it was a bit like playing at dusk in Ibiza except with more wide-brimmed hats,
less bikinis and the sun setting over the bookie’s stand not a beach”.
Now, Uttoxeter Racecourse is planning to stage yet another spectacular occasion - where
the frocks and fascinators will be more than matched by the facts and figures.
Did you know, for example, that more than 150 kilogrammes of strawberries are expected to
be consumed by racegoers on the day? That 2,700 glasses of Champagne and Prosecco
will be poured; 4,500 meals will be served; and that well over 6,000 people (of whom more
than 60% will be females) will be able to enjoy a full card of seven races.
And, assuming the average height of shoe on the night is three inches, it’s even possible to
say that if they were laid down ‘heel-to-heel’ along the track, they would stretch for three
furlongs - or three quarters of the length of the home straight!
With seven races on the card, Ladies Day this year will also give racegoers the chance to
boogie the night away after the racing, with a live concert from an ‘Olly Meets Bublé’ tribute
act.
For those who fancy their chances there’s always the fun of having a flutter. And, as ever,
there will also be prizes on offer for the Best Dressed Lady, and the Best Hat and this year
they’re proudly sponsored by the exclusive Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel who will also be
offering hair and beauty treatments throughout the day
While Ladies Day on Friday 24 July is expected to produce one of the highlights of
Staffordshire’s summer season, the racecourse will then face a couple of very busy days to
be ready in time for what promises to be an action packed Summer Family Fun Day on
Sunday 26 July - featuring One Direction’s only cover band, ‘Only One Direction’, and a rare
chance to see a children’s pony race being run on one of the country’s top racecourses.
Full details of both meetings can be found online at www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk.
Tickets for Ladies Day are available from just £10 both online, or over the phone from the
racecourse office on 01889 562561.
