Overview

Introduction► Situated in the western coast of Karnataka► Spread across 11 administrative taluks

Ankola, Bhatkal, Haliyal, Honnavar, Karwar,Kumta, Mundgod, Siddapur, Sirsi, Supa andYallapur

► Has one of the six atomic power stations inIndia located at Kaiga which generates 2,231GW-h of power annually

► Project Seabird – Greenfield Naval Base islocated near Karwar in the district

► Folk Arts like Suggikunitha, Holi Dance,Hulivesha, Siddi Dance are famous andtraditional. Yakshagana is also famous in theDistrict

► Madhukeshwar Temple at Banavasi, UlaviChannabasaveshwar Temple at Ulavi,Siddivinayaka Temple at Idagunji,Mahabaleshwar Temple at Gokarna,Mathobara Temple at Murdeshwar,Marikamba Temple in Sirsi are famousplaces of worship in the District.

Uttara Kannada District is one of the biggest districts of our State with abundant naturalresources. The district has varied geographical features with thick forest, perennialrivers and abundant flora and fauna and a long coastal line of about 140 KM in length. Itis surrounded by Belgaum District and State of Goa in the North, by Dharwar District inthe East, by Shimoga and Udupi Districts in the South. Arabian Sea forms the Westborder.

► GDDP is INR 17,140 Crore in the year 2014 -15 (at Current Prices)► Urbanisation in the district is 29% compared to 39% in the state► Uttara Kannada is an agrarian economy with 12% of the net area

jewelry, food products, wood and steel furniture, glass and ceramics► Products of the large and medium scale industries are paper,
