UTS continues its distance learning initiative this Spring with two fully online, for-credit courses.

WORLD SCRIPTURES AND WORLD PEACEThis course gives primary attention to the Bible and the Qur’an. Among the world’s religions, these “Abrahamic faiths” are at the center of religious conflict today. Through studying their scriptures, we can find meeting-points for peace and interfaith harmony. Then we will conclude by tasting the scriptures of Buddhism and Confucianism.

Each of these scriptures weaves a rich tapestry of teachings that speak to the varieties of human experiences with God and the ways that faith addresses the human condition. They speak to the ways of God’s providence, the pain of undeserved suffering, and the hope for redemption. There are both hard texts that cause friction and golden texts that inspire believers to strive for peace.

With ample coverage of the Bible, this course can serve as a general introduction for students whose ministries are in the Christian world. The course also spends three weeks on the Qur’an, to elucidate the basics of Islam. 3 Credits

LIFE AND THOUGHT OF SUN MYUNG AND HAK JA HAN MOONThis course presents the life and thought of Sun Myung and Hak Ja Han Moon from the perspective that they were (and are) carrying out the mission of the Messiah as they understand it, to wit: The Messiah’s responsibility is to stand as the new, biblical Adam and Eve, the embodiment of God and True Parents of humankind. Rev. Moon derived from this a set of objectives for himself and his wife, for their family, their religious community and other affiliated organizations, their nation, the world and the spirit world.

Students will carry out historical research on a specific historical question of their choice. 3 credits

The Master of Arts in Religious Studies (M.A.) prepares students for diverse positions and ministries as well as for doctoral studies. It offers optional concentrations in Interfaith Peacebuilding, Non-Profit Leadership, Unification Studies and Theological Studies.

The Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.) prepares students for a variety of lay ministries, particularly educational ministries that emphasize sound principles of educational programming

The Master of Divinity (M.Div) prepares men and women for pastoral leadership

The Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) develops ministerial leadership at an advanced level.
