Overview

The Meter Logger 100 (ML100) is an interface device that converts the pulse outputs from your utility meters

into easily accessible energy consumption data. The Meter Logger is supplied with a TCP-IP interface and web

browser software and connects directly into any ethernet based network using a standard RJ45 connector.

The ML100 is supplied with an ethernet cable so that it can be

connected into an existing network. However even if there are

no network connections available in the vicinity of the utility

meters, the ML100 can still be successfully deployed using one

of the following three options:

 Ethernet-over-mains

 Wireless network

 E-mail data transmission using GSM

Ethernet-over-Mains

HomePlug/Powerline devices allow for transmitting data using the mains power wiring. The only requirement is

that the devices are plugged into sockets on the same supply phase. The ML100 connects to the ethernet

socket in the local HomePlug device and then the remote HomePlug connects to the wired network

Mains sockets on thesame supply phase,up to 300m apart

Connectivity Options

Data via E-mail Using GSM

If the area where the utility meters are located is covered by a wireless network, then it is possible to connect

the ML100 to the network wirelessly. A wireless router offering support for “client mode” is required. Crucible

Technologies have successfully tested this mode of operation using a TP-Link Wireless N Nano Router (model

number TL-WR702N) however it is likely that many other models of wireless router which support “client mode”

operation can also be employed. The router operating in this mode allows the ML100 to appear on the wireless

network as an addressable device and so it is possible to access the energy consumption data.

Wireless access point

If connection to a network via any of the previous means is not possible or if on-demand access to energy

consumption data is not required, then the ML100 can be configured to send data via e-mail on a regular (daily,

weekly or monthly) basis. Connecting the ML100 to a 3G router and GSM modem allows the e-mail send to be

achieved in any location where there is mobile signal coverage. The e-mail facility requires only minimal

configuration to designate up to two recipient e-mail addresses. The e-mail subject line identifies the specific

ML100 and the energy consumption data is provided as a CSV attachment.
