CURRENT CONSTRUCTION AREA MAP: SHERMAN HEIGHTSUTILITIES UNDERGROUNDING PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe City of San Diego has been undergrounding utility lines since 1970. Approximately 1,200 miles of overhead utility lines remain to be undergrounded. The City, in cooperation with SDG&E, Cox Communications, Time Warner and AT&T, is currently undergrounding the utility lines in your community.
PROJECT BLOCK 8G HIGHLIGHTS• 2 miles of utilities will be undergrounded• 345 private residences will have their utilities
undergrounded• 22 street lights will be installed• 59 shade trees will be installed• 48 curb ramps will be installed• Streets will be resurfaced or slurry sealed curb-to-curb

CUSTOMER NOTICESPermission to Enter Forms: Before construction began on this project, property owners were sent a Permission to Enter (PTE) form. By signing this form, you enroll your property in the Utilities Undergrounding Program and grant crews access to the exterior of your property to complete the undergrounding work at no up-front cost. Property owners within this Project Block who have not signed a PTE form or failed to return it by the required deadline date, will be responsible for all costs and permits needed for con-verting their property to receive underground utility service.
Currently, there are 36 property owners in Project Block 8G/Sherman Heights who need to submit their PTE form.
Correction Notices: If you need to make a correction to your prop-erty in order to pass final inspection, you will receive a door hanger or letter from a City of San Diego inspector. The door hanger and letter have a description of the correction needed. Please do not delay in contacting the inspector whose name and phone number appear on these notices, so that the problem can be resolved.
Most of these corrections are minor and are the responsibility of the property owner. Corrections need to be completed before we can cut customers over to the new underground system. Customers who are not cut-over to the new underground system risk loss of service when the overhead system is removed.
Currently, there are 23 residences in Job 1 and 5 residences in Job 2 that need to make corrections to their services or properties.
CUSTOMER RESOURCESProject Satisfaction: In the event that you are not satisfied or pleased with the work that was done on your property or your street, please let us know. Please do not attempt to make corrections, adjustments or improvements yourself. We will not be able to switch your services to the new underground system if any modifications were done to our work.
Safety: All project crew members should be wearing properidentification while on the job site. If you see anyone suspicious on your property, please call the Information Line at (619) 533-3841 or the San Diego Police Department.

PANEL AND TRENCHING ACTIVITIESPanel work is when electricians prepare the electrical panel at your home to receive underground service. Trenching activities involves digging a mainline trench in the street and a lateral customer service trench that connects the mainline trench to your utility box. Conduit lines, which house the underground utility cabling, are then installed and buried in the trenches.
Panel work is 98% complete in Project Block 8G.
Trench work is 100% complete.
CABLING, CUT-OVER AND OVERHEAD LINE REMOVAL Cabling involves technicians placing new utility lines in the new conduits, so that the new lines can be “energized” and brought into service. Once the new system has been energized, the process to “cut-over” customers from overhead to underground services will begin. Once customers have been cut-over, the overhead lines will be removed. This process is not nearly as disruptive as the trenching work, which is why you may not even see us working. A door hanger will be left prior to the contractor visiting your property. Here is the current status of these activities:
SDG&E is 100% complete with cabling in Job 1 and Job 2. They are 48% complete with cut-over work in Job 1 and 78% com-plete in Job 2.
AT&T is 100% complete with cabling and 90% complete with cut-overs in Job 2.
AT&T crew members transfer their service from the overhead lines to the under-ground system.
