Use of STD 2.1 in Word 2007 and Word 2010

    Version 1.1 - 2011-06-01 Page 1 of 2

STD 2.1 works with Word 2007 and Word 2010 although the user interface has a different appearance anda few problems may be encountered. This document provides detailed information for the use of STD 2.1

in Word 2007 and Word 2010. It supplements the information provided in theReference manual.

NOTE: STD 2.1 will not be optimized by ISO for Word 2007 and Word 2010.

    Installation

To install STD 2.1 on Word 2007 and 2010, the installation instructions are the same as those provided athttp://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/fetch/2000/2122/3146825/4229629/templates/terms_std21.htm exceptthat in Microsoft Vista and Windows 7 the STD.INI file shall be copied to C:\WINDOWS.

The same security problems as with Office XP and 2003 (see B.4 in thetemplate reference manual) maybe experienced.

NOTE: If you are running Office 2007 in Windows XP, the latter needs to be upgraded to SP 2 or higher.

    User interface

The STD toolbar does not appear in the foreground as in the previous versions of Word but is available inthe "Add-Ins" tab of the Ribbon. The toolbar will normally appear in the "Custom Toolbars" group. An extragroup "Menu Commands" may also appear although it is not useful and cannot be deleted; meanwhile, itspresence does not have any adverse effect.

NOTE: For information, there is a tool available which allow the STD toolbar to appear as in Word 2003;seehttp://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeRibbon.htmfor details.

    Best practice

Files prepared in older versions of Word or in another environment will generally not be linked to the

template when they are opened for the first time. To attach them to the STD template,

    for Word 2007, click on the "Office" button, and then on the "Word Options" button;

for Word 2010, click on the "File" Ribbon tab and then on "Options".

In the "Word Options" dialogue box, select "Add-Ins" in the left-hand pane then select "Templates" or"Word Add-Ins" in the "Manage" dropdown list at the bottom of the right-hand pane, and click on the "Go..."button. In the "Templates and Add-ins" dialogue box, select the "Templates" tab, click on the "Attach..."button, browse the "Attach Template" dialogue to locate "STD.DOT", select it and then click on the "Open"button (in the "Attach Template" dialogue box) and "OK" (in the "Templates and Add-ins" dialogue box). Then save and close the file, and reopen it.

All new files created with the STD template will open in "compatibility mode" (this is indicated in the filename area at the top of the screen). In this mode, it is possible to work with the file based on theWord 97/2003 template in Word 2007 or 2010.

NOTE: Consequently, some of the features of Word 2007 or 2010 will not be available.

Please do not save the file in .docx format since ISO/CS does not accept this format yet.

Detailed information regarding features that behave differently in Word 2010 and earlier versions isavailable athttp://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/open-a-word-2010-document-in-an-earlier-version-of-word-HA010370115.aspx. For example, the equation editor in Word 2007 and 2010 is different to that inWord 97-2003. Essentially, the way in which equations are treated, the use of fonts (the new equationeditor uses Cambria Math by default), the formatting of certain elements (e.g. the size and positioning ofsuperscripts and subscripts), the input methods and the output format differ. Microsoft provides substantialbackground information about this new equation editor: for example consulthttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_office_word/archive/2006/10/04/equations-in-word-2007.aspx.

Equations created using the equation editors in Word 2007 and 2010 become graphics when opened inWord 97 or 2003 and cannot be changed.

    Known problems and their solution

    Problems encountered Solution

A Run-time error 4120 "badparameter" messageappears when creating or

opening a file based on theISO template.

Your copy of MS Office needs to be personalized as follows. Open a new file inWord.

For Word 2007, click on the "Office" button, and then on the "Word Options"button, and in the left-hand pane, click on "Popular".

For Word 2010, click on the "File" Ribbon tab and then on "Options", and in theleft-hand pane, click on "General".

Enter your "User name" and "Initials" in the appropriate fields in the right-hand panein the section "Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office".

When working in Vista orWindows 7, an errormessage appears stating'PrivateProfileString' ofobject 'System' failed.

Open the Control panel/User accounts and turn off the User Account Control.

The procedure cannot be described in detail since it varies depending on theoperating system used and its edition: please refer to the Microsoft online help.

When using the STDtemplate commands or

when opening a file createdon a different PC, the errormessage 6068(programmatic access toVisual Basic Projects is nottrusted) appears.

For Word 2007, click on the "Office" button, and then on the "Word Options"button, click Trust Center and select Trust Center Settings.

For Word 2010, click on the "File" Ribbon tab, click on "Options" in the left-handpane, select "Trust Center" and then click on the Trust Center Settings button inthe right-hand pane and select "Macro Settings".

Change the settings to enable all macros and to trust access to the VBA projectobject model, then click OK twice. (The exact instructions cannot be given here sincethey vary depending on the edition of Office 2007 or 2010 used; please refer to theonline help if necessary.)

Headers and footers are notvisible when a newdocument is created

Display the headers and footers, and then in each section, select the field and pressF9.

Headers and footers are notupdated when metadata are

    changed in Doc.Info

Display the headers and footers, and then in each section, select the fields and pressF9.

Footnotes: there is nospace after the rule(footnote separator) and soit is too close to thefootnotes

    Do not worry about this.

Informative annexes: theannex title inserted is not inbold typeface

Select the annex title and specify Bold.

STD toolbar disappears If two or more documents based on the STD template are opened simultaneously, the "Add-Ins" tab which contains the STD toolbar will sometimes disappear in one ofthe two documents.

To display the toolbar again, close the file and re-open it again.

If after doing this, the STD toolbar does not appear, it has probably been disabled;see the solution to that problem below.

STD toolbar is disabled To re-enable the STD toolbar, proceed as follows:

    in Word 2007: click on the "Office" button, "Word Options", "Add-ins" and lookunder "Disabled Application Add-ins";

in Word 2010: click on the "File" Ribbon tab, click on "Options" in the left-handpane, select "Add-ins" and look under "Disabled Application Add-ins".

    Then re-enable the Add-in.
