2018 ROSTERUTA COACH PEEJAY BRUNA new era for the UT Arlington softball program began on August 22, 2017 with the appointment of Peejay Brun as the Mavericks’ head coach.

Brun brings 19 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Mavericks program, including six as a head coach. For nine of the last 11 seasons,

she has served as an assistant coach at Texas State University.

“We are thrilled to have Peejay Brun lead our softball program,” said UTA director of athletics Jim Baker. “Her enthusiasm, energy, competitive spirit and overall commitment to the student-athlete will help continue to drive our program forward. Wehavemadesignificantenhancementsoverthelastfewyears and Peejay is in a prime position to lead UTA softball to prominence.”

A 1994 graduate of the University of Hawai’i, Brun comes to UTA following one season in her second stint as an assistant at Texas State after serving as the head coach at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo for two years. She led UH Hilo to a 63-33-1 overall record, a 41-19-1 record in the PacWest Conference.

Brun developed a NFCA All-America selection, eight all-league honorees and two all-region selections at UH Hilo. Eighteen student-athletes under her direction earned all-PacWest academic honors and six were named NFCA Academic All-America.

“I’d like to sincerely thank President Vistasp Karbhari, Director of Athletics Jim Baker and the UTA athletic department for this amazing opportunity,” said Brun. “I am honored to join a department led with strong vision, commitment and enthusiasm. My experience as a student athlete was one that I absolutely loved, from the competition to the camaraderie. I am eager to be a part of creating that experience for the young ladies in our program. It’s a very exciting time to be a Maverick and I am thrilled to be a part of the team.”

During her playing career at UH, Brun earned second-team all-Big West honors, was selected as a state winner in the NCAA Woman of the Year program and earned an undergraduate degree in music. Brun played professionally for two years in the Ladies Professional Baseball League before serving two years as a softball and volleyball coach at Encinal High School in Alameda, Calif.

Brun entered collegiate coaching as an assistant coach at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, where she helped the team toasecondplacefinishintheCaliforniaCollegiateAthleticAssociation. While at CSUDH, Brun earned a master’s degree in physical education administration.

In 2002, she was named head coach at Siena College and ledtheSaintstoanumberofprogramrecordsandtheirfirstconference tournament appearance. She developed two all-region, nine all-conference, 14 all-academic and six NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.

She moved to Texas State in 2007 and, over the next eight seasons, helped develop more than 40 all-Southland Conference performers, 11 SLC players of the year and nine NFCA all-region selections.
