WHAT IS UT SYSTEM APPRECIATION DAY?

UT System Appreciation Day was developed by the Employee Advisory Council to recognize the founding date of UT systems.

Although we are 15 individual campuses and over 90,000 employees, we are all still ONE FAMILY under UT.

Our hope is to have one day to represent our family, our unity and our pride in being a part of The University of Texas.

UT system day celebration with a

promo at Starbucks for students and staff - $1.00 tall coffee!!!

What did we do? • Staff/Faculty/Students met at the front of the

UTPA Visitors Center• Breakfast food/snacks and refreshments for

attendees (Krispy Kreme doughnuts,breakfast tacos, fruit, coffee and juice)

• The UTPA Tuba/euphonium played• Attendees wore their spirit shirt• Group Photo• Email sent by President

• Posted the Team Unity flyer on campus TV’s• “UT System Recognition Day!” running on

outdoor marques.• Coordinated with Staff Senate, SGA, and

Faculty Senate

The UTPA staff incorporated the UTHSCSA staff that is housed at the UTPA campus. They stated that “We are supposed to be celebrating UT System Day together and this is a

great opportunity to continue to support the collaborative relationships between institutions. “

• UT Austin Staff Council advertised on their websiteduring the week of the event/holiday.

• Carrot cake cupcakes (orange) and used one bluecandle to celebrate the first annual event with UTSystem’s colors.

• Staff Council Chair and the AVP of HR met tocelebrate the day and brainstorm new ideas toimprove the lives of employees.

• President provided everyone with Hamburgers• Handed out UTPB pocket fans• Campus wide Trivia Participation• Approximately 250 faculty, staff and students

participated.• The President gave a speech about what UT system

day is and the history of UT system.• Purchasing department put on a little show by

dancing to YMCA, (of course changing the lyrics toUTPB) and had good participation in the dance,including the Provost!

President  Colasurdo  encouraged  everyone  to  wear  their  favorite  UT  alum  or  UTHealth  apparel  and  show  support  for  our  University  of  Texas  heritage.  

By  taking  a  moment  to  appreciate  our  UT  roots,  we  honor  more  than  130  years  of  superb  educaDon  that  has  transformed  the  State  of  Texas  –  and  beyond.  

CONNECTING OUR PAST TO OUR PRESENT

‘Bout  Time  The  President  wished  to  provide  EVERYONE  with  a  sustainable  way  to  honor  our  history  by  bringing  our  history  into  the  present.    UTHealth  has  launched  a  special  blog,  to  be  posted  throughout  the  year,  filled  with  surprising  anecdotes  about  our  history.    From  the  birth  of  UT  System  in  1881  to  the  untold  stories  behind  the  creaDon  of  the  Texas  Medical  Center  and  our  six  schools,  knowing  the  personal  histories  of  the  men  and  women  who  founded  this  insDtuDon  is  a  wonderful  way  to  honor  and  appreciate  who  we  are  as  a  family  of  UT  professional  schools.    The  first  of  the  series  includes  a  link  to  the  first  “handwriRen”  minutes  of  the  Board  of  Regents  hRp://www.uth.edu/blog/bout-­‐Dme/.
