QUICK HITTERS¢ Tennessee is coming off its 16th straight win in a

home opener after defeating Dayton, 3-1, on Monday. UT is now 20-1 all-time in home openers and 15-0 under co-head coaches Ralph & Karen Weekly. ¢ UT has never lost to any of its three opponents this

weekend, posting a combined record of 4-0 against them.¢ The Vols have been solid offensively early in the year,

ranking 16th in the nation with 7.56 runs per game. They also rank 16th nationally in slugging percentage (.567) and 17th in on-base percentage (.449). ¢ The Vols have gotten major production from their

freshmen class, especially the trio of Aubrey Leach, Brooke Vines and Abby Lockman. Vines and Leach rank first & second on the team in batting average and the three have combined for 46 starts, 47 hits, 32 runs and 23 RBIs.¢ Megan Geer has reached base in 15 straight games

and is coming off a great week. The junior was named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team after batting .500 with four runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and a home run.¢ Meghan Gregg was also named to the Easton Bama

Bash All-Tournament Team after batting .538 over the weekend with four runs, four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs.¢ Freshman pitcher Matty Moss has been lights out

in her last two appearances, throwing a one-hit shutout vs. Marshall and holding No. 4 Alabama scoreless for 5.2 innings before giving up three runs in the final inning. She was named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team for her efforts.¢ Erin Gabriel leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally

with 70 strikeouts this season. She is also tied for third in the SEC and tied for 11th in the country with seven victories already this season.¢ With her win over Dayton on Monday, Gabriel moved

into the top 10 in career wins at Tennessee with 34.¢ Gabriel was named SEC Pitcher of the Week (2/15)

for the first time in her career earlier this season.¢ Shaliyah Geathers is tied for second in the SEC with

eight doubles and is also tied for 20th in the country with 0.50 doubles per game. ¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly enters this

weekend with a career record of 945-319-2, just five wins shy of 950 for her career. ¢ For the sixth time in program history, Tennessee

was ranked in the Top 10 of both national preseason polls (2006, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016). The Vols rank No. 8 in the NFCA Preseason Poll and No. 9 in the USA Softball Preseason Poll.

USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll, marking UT’s 13th-straight season opening play as a ranked team.¢ The Vols went 47-17 in 2015 and advanced

to their seventh Women’s College World Series Appearance in program history.¢ UT was picked to finish fifth in the SEC

Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Rainey Gaffin was named to the Preseason All-SEC Team.¢ Senior Rainey Gaffin was named to the USA

Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 “Watch List”¢ Tennessee returns nine players from last

year’s team, including NFCA All-American Rainey Gaffin and SEC All-Freshmen team selections Meghan Gregg & Scarlet McSwain.¢ UT’s 10-member freshmen class was rated

No. 2 in the nation by Full Count Softball and included five players on the Hot 100 list. (Vines, Leach, Rowland, Lockman, Bush)¢ Tennessee returns its three top pitchers from

a year ago and added three freshmen pitchers to the rotation.¢ Tennessee brings back 68 percent of its run

production from last season.¢ The Vols return players who accounted for

64 of their program-record 100 home runs last season. ¢ Three current Vols were named to the U.S. Women’s Elite Team this summer. (Gaffin, Gregg, Vines)¢ Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph & Karen

Weekly enter their 15th year at the helm of Tennessee Softball. They boast a 711-217-2 (.766) record at UT and have led the program to 12 straight NCAA Tournament appearances.¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly enters this

season with a career record of 934-314-2, just 16 wins shy of 950 for her career.

WEEK 1 NOTES (KAJIKAWA CLASSIC)¢ The Vols went 4-2 with two wins over teams

that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament (BYU & Northwestern).¢ Erin Gabriel went 2-1 and posted 10-plus

strikeout in all three of her starts, totaling 34 for the week. She threw a complete-game shutout with 13 Ks in the Vols season-opening 5-0 victory over Creighton.¢ Gabriel also become the first Tennessee

pitcher to strike out 10-plus batter in three straight appearances since Ellen Renfroe accomplished the feat in 2014.¢ Freshmen Aubrey Leach and Brooke Vines

both batted over .430 and combined for 20 hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs and seven steals. In UT’s 15-3

win over BYU, Leach went 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs while Vines went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.¢ UT had four players bat over .400 and four

players drive in at least five runs.¢ The Vols averaged 7.3 runs per game and

9.3 runs per game in their four wins.

WEEK 2 NOTES (MICHELE SMITH INVITATIONAL)¢ The Vols went 4-1 with run-rule victories

over Oklahoma State, Fordham and DePaul.¢ Tennessee improved its all-time record in

Clearwater, Fla., to 21-2.¢ UT averaged 9.2 runs per game in its five

contests and scored 10 or more three times.¢ Shaliyah Geathers had a monster week,

batting .471 with six runs, five doubles and 10 RBIs. She set a new career high in RBIs twice, first with four against Oklahoma State and again with five against DePaul.¢ The Vols hit a season-high three homers in a

16-4 win over DePaul on Sunday.¢ Megan Geer hit a pair of home runs on the

week to increase her team-leading total to three.¢ Rainey Gaffin hit her first two home runs of

the year and also recorded her first two saves of the season.¢ Erin Gabriel posted a perfect 3-0 record for

the week.

WEEK 3 NOTES (EASTON BAMA BASH)¢ The Vols went 2-2 with two wins over

Marshall and a pair of 1-run losses to No. 15 Arizona & No. 4 Alabama.¢ Matty Moss, Meghan Gregg & Megan Geer

were all named to the all-tournament team.¢ Moss threw a complete-game one-hitter

in an 18-0 win over Marshall & followed that with 5.2 scorless innings of relief against No. 4 Alabama before giving up three late runs. Moss leads the team with a 1.58 ERA.¢ Meghan Gregg batted .538 with four runs,

four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and a 1.308 slugging percentage. The sophomore posted a new career high with seven RBIs in the Vols’ 18-0 win over Marshall On Feb. 27.¢ Megan Geer also had a strong weekend,

posting six hits, four runs, three extra-base hits and seven RBIs. Geer went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs in Tennessee’s 18-0 win over Marshall on Feb. 27.¢ Geer leads the team with 18 runs and 18 RBIs

and has reached base in 15 straight games.¢ UT nearly knocked off No. 4 Alabama,

coming back from a 3-run deficit to take a 5-3 lead before giving up three runs with two outs in the seventh inning.

WHO’S HOT?Meghan Gregg (So. - SS)¢ In the last five games Gregg leads the

Vols with seven hits, four runs, four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and a 1.063 slugging percentage.¢ Gregg went 3-for-4 with two runs and a

career-high seven RBIs in a win over Marshall on Feb. 27¢ Gregg was named to the Easton Bama Bash

All-Tournament Team last weekend.

The Lady Vols hit .354 as a team last weekend while their pitchers limited opponents to a .181 batting average.¢ UT is ranked No. 11 in the latest USA Today/

NFCA Top 25 Poll and No. 14 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll.¢ With a 5-0 win over Ohio on Feb. 6,

Tennessee improved to 13-7 all-time in season openers and 11-3 under the direction of Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly in the first game of the year.¢ Rainey Gaffin hit a grand slam in Tennessee’s

9-0 (5) rout of Dayton on Feb. 6 ,2015. It was Tennessee’s first grand slam since Madison Shipman drove in four on one swing against South Carolina on March 21, 2014.¢ Taylor Koenig enjoyed an outstanding

opening weekend, hitting .667 (6-for-9) with two homers, two doubles, 10 RBIs, five runs, a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base mark. Rainey Gaffin hit .429 with two homers and seven RBIs.¢ Gretchen Aucoin earned two of UT’s wins,
