Techniques for Fraud DetectionIntroduction to: Benford’s Law

Discovered by Simon Newcomb in 1881 numbers follow a fixed algorithmic logic. not promoted by him aggressively. the concept subdued after his death.

Reopened by Frank Benford in 1938 works with GE. he is the one who popularised the concept. wrote a detailed thesis on its working.

The ‘one theory’. this is called ‘digit analysis’. A series of payments follow a general rhythm unless until

they are compromised fraudulently…… Linked to digital analysis by Carslaw in 1988. He used them to analyse financial statements for the first

time. Mathematically proved by Theodore Hill of Georgia Institute

of Technology in 1996. A major breakthrough for fraud catching professionals. How does it work………..!!!!.
